Thailand beat Australia to win JFC Title

Thai girls had a successful campaign to claim the Junior Fed Cup Title with a 2 - 1 upset victory over top seed Australia in the finals ( Knock-out stage ) of Junior Fed Cup Asia/Oceania qualifying Zone at the LTAM National Tennis Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia earlier today.

It was very tightly contested with the results not decided till the final set of the doubles with Thailand won 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-5 in a three hour and 20 minutes marathon decisive doubles match after having split the singles ties.

In all their winning way, Thailand team who has finished 5th place in last year, had cruised through their section of the draw with an impressive 15-3 winning record. The Thais, seeded fourth, had eliminated four seeded along the way, beat sixth-seeded Indonesia 2-1 in a single round robin; defeated eight-seeded Korea 3-0 in the quarter-finals; knocked out second seed Japan 2-1 in the semi-finals; and upset top seed Australia 2-1 in the final.

The top three teams who advanced to the World Group which will held in in Reggio Emilia, Italy are fourth-seeded Thailand ( first place ), top seed Australia ( second place ) and second seed Japan ( third place ), who defeated third-seeded Uzbekistan 2-1.

It was an impressive results for Thai tennis as Thai girls' 14U ( Luksika Kumkhum, Jaruwadee Kaewma and Napatsakorn Sankaew ) also won a title in the World Junior (Under 14) Competition Asia/Oceania qualifying Zone earlier last month.
