I agree.:wavey: Everyone of them would deserve it. But personally, I vote for Jelena (not hard to imagine;) ), because it was her very first Tier I tournament win and also a pretty exciting one. This means a lot to me and to all her fans and supporters on this board and elsewhere. So, of course, all kudos to Jelena.:worship:

But also BRAVO for Tati and Serena.:worship:

you could make a case for all three. picked serena because she won the event with the best field beating the world number one and had more quality wins along the way. if she could have got deep into charleston it would be her without question, but because she lost early it makes her april almost equal to tati and jakovics.

Even though Miami's final might've been in April, that's still a March tourney, so Serena shouldn't really be in the poll, but I guess people have to squeeze her in everywhere.
Without Miami she did little, retirement in Charleston and only played one rubber in Fed Cup.

Jankovic on the other hand won a Tier I in Charleston and almost single handedly took Serbia to the WGII playoffs winning all her rubbers and playing in most doubles matches as well.

Golovin won her first title, but it was a lower Tier than Jankovic, had she not been forced to retire from her match in Charleston, who knows what she could've achieved there though and she also helped France win against Japan playing a bigger role than Serena did against the Belgians.

Having said all this my vote goes to Jankovic.

Golovin. She's been showing great play on the green stuff. Winning her first title beating former world no. 1 Venus, then ivanovic and the defending champion and no. 1 seed 62 61 in the final.

Then winning all her matches comfortably in the Fed cup! Great month, I really hope it can continue to the French!

stop being a hater, she won the title in April and the poll is all in good fun. too many people take things way too serious around here, just relax and let us have some harmless fun what’s the big deal. having serena in the poll and including the miami tournament makes picking the best player for april more interesting and harder to do. speaking of polls, you should get the one out of your ‘you know what’ and just pick a player without all that extra lip flapping.
Wow...panties in a bunch much? I was just expressing my opinion, no need to go on this ultra defense, or did it touch a nerve.

Why don't they start calling March Madness, April Madness then.

And I should've known that posting what I think and how I see it is useless here anyway, you say something against Serena and you get attacked the very next second. Did I ever say I hate her?

Uh, Miami is in March, not April. The final wasn't even in April, so this pretty much disqualifies the argument for Serena. I'd say it is Jankovic.

I dont like either one of them so I think I am kinda unbiased here..:p and I think its Janko.. Winning her 1st tier 1 :rocker2: and a title after a long time while williams is a homie at Miami.. I am sure at the end of her career, number of miami titles won would be quite a huge number..But how many Tier 1s Janko will will is questionable..:p Anyways Congrats to all 3 of them for their achievements!

 most people voted for JJ, so why the comments about getting people to believe Miami was in March :o

There's only 2 reasons I put in in there:
1. On the WTA profiles, Miami is in each player's results as April 3rd
2. It was a better idea for it to be a 3-person contest as opposed to a 2-person one

If we're all under the consensus that even though the WTA considers Miami an April tourney, that it DOESN'T count, I think that Tati honestly is the player of the month.

She won her FIRST title, and she didn't lose a match (she retired in one match, but that's not the same as the straight sets loss that Jelena had). I'm a fan of both, but from a career standpoint, if it's not Serena (which I think it should be) then it's Tati for sure.

Top 10 Wins:
Tati: 1 (Petrova - AI Final)
Jankovic: 0

Top 20 Wins:
Tati: 2 (add Ivanovic - AI Semi)
Jankovic: 1 (Safina - Charleston Final)

Highest Ranked Player Defeated:
Tati: #7 Nadia Petrova
Jankovic: #12 Dinara Safina

Lowest Ranked Player Defeated:
Tati: #131 Dominka Cibukova
Jankovic: #252 Margit Ruutel

Opponents Outside Top 100:
Tati: 1
Jankovic: 4 (1 outside of Top 250)

2-Set Matches:
Tati: 8 (8-0)
Jankovic: 11 (10-1)

3-Set Matches:
Tati: 2 (2-0)
Jankovic: 1 (1-0)

Perhaps she should be replaced by Safina, Zvonareva, Ivanovic? Anyone who at least played more than two matches!Yeah... why is "1-1 April" Serena in this poll - April is her worst month so far in 2007???

I think that JJ is "Player Of The Month" for this April2007. But not because i think that she played much better than Golovin this month. Reason is simple - Charleston is tier-I and Amelia Island is tier-II. Jelena reach 500pts (and more than 200K$) and Tati reach 385pts (and less than 150K$) this month.

I would give it to Golovin. Sure i may be biased but my reasoning would be that Serena's win was completely expected and Jankovic wins wasn't a shock given the hugely depleted field in Charleston. Golovin's win in Amelia on the hand was unexpected and in my opinion was the biggest breakthrough.

she didn't even lose the first set, and even if she did, she's undefeated this year in 3 setters where she loses the first set, and she hasn't lost a match in straights in almost 6 months (and it wouldn't have been to Chan :p)
