Vania was solid, but it was pretty much a choke job. Flipkens had a bad call go against her while serving for it, and after that she just mentally fell apart.

Sorry for my ignorance but the match wasn't televised in the UK. So how did Vania actually win the match point? A forehand winner? So when was Kirsten serving for the match......5-3 up in the third? And what was the bad call?

Once again sorry for so many questions.

Kirsten hit a dropshot and Vania got to it and hit the forehand winner for the win. Kirsten was serving up 5-4 in the third and the call happened at 15-30. I believe she thought the ball was going out but it was called in,but from the replay I saw,it looked in.

Vania :D Nice fight.

well vania hit a high ball (half- misshit) right behind the corner of the court and ramos didnt feel he could intervene, flipper saw it clearly wide and didnt do anything with it. so it was 15-40 instead of 30-30. then flipkens went on to net a forehand.

flipper made a dropshot and vania came up the court and hitt e winner crosscourt. = matchpoint

it looked out to me :i

but i would have liked flipkens to win just to see how vee would come out under real pressure :/ and to keep the thrill going. gah that woman just cant lead and close out.

Thanks for the screencaps. I'm curious, though. Is Venus playing tonight? I thought the US was advancing. I don't understand why she would still have to play that match. I seem to remember James Blake having to do the same after the US mens team advanced to the next round. Can someone please explain to me how this works? Thanks!

Venus is going to be the same had Flipkens won or lost. It wouldnt make much difference to Venus and how she'll perform. And if you want to see how Venus copes in "real pressure" look at her performance in Wimbledon 05 final. Thats the honest indication.

I can't remember match point, wasn't that special. End of the match got ruined by the umpire. For the second time he overruled faultly.

She didn't do anything with it?? Strange, I saw her go to the umpire and Sabine too, a really substantial amount of time! Maybe you were going to get a drink in the kitchen meanwhile :)
And the ball was clearly out, viewers could see the ball out and most of all it was right in front of Kirsten, her reaction was an obvious indication the ball was indeed wide.
Ramos was the one who intervened, I thought, he overruled the ball as being in.

It was a good match and all for Vania, but it still showed she is kind of struggling with her game this year.

She looks like she has gained some weight and muscle but still having problems with trying to be aggressive and just not being able to garner enough power to put the ball away.

Great match though and it had to be a thrill for Vania to be able to be the won that won the match for the USA.

Flipkens did get hooked on that one. However, if she would have consolidated any of her breaks in the second or third sets, that call wouldn't have mattered.

I still think Flipkens has more talent than King. But Flipkens just didn't have the confidence to close it out in the 2nd set and was cramping througout the whole 3th set.

I think it's because she isn't working hard enough, like her coach told in the Belgian media last week.
