if you dont play in this year's fed cup competition, can you not play the olympics of 2008?

like in justine's case....she's not playing and belgium is probably going to lose, therefore not getting a chance to compete.


....and are the williams sisters only doing fed cup for THAT reason??? remember, the last time they played was 4 years ago.

The long explanation includes the ITF rules, and speculation as to what "make available" means. And there have been like 100 threads on that recently.

The short answer is, no.

Justine returned from a long layoff in '04 and won the Gold medal with no warmup events. I'm not surprised that she'd leave that as her Olympic legacy, and not risk ending with a defeat.

Justine played last year, so she needs to play either later this year or next year in order to be eligible. I think that's right.
