• Actor Alec Baldwin left the angry phone message for daughter
• Message: "You don't have the brains or the decency"
• Message: "Your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass"
• Mother, Kim Basinger, was married to Baldwin from '93 to '01

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The tension between movie-star exes Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger erupted when an angry phone message from Baldwin to his daughter was made public.

The recording was published Thursday by celebrity news site TMZ.com, which said the call was placed on April 11.

On the recording, Baldwin can be heard admonishing his 11-year-old daughter, Ireland, "You are a rude, thoughtless little pig." (Hear Baldwin's vicious rant Video)

"You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being," he says, apparently upset that she did not answer her phone for a planned call.

"I don't give a damn that you're 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you're a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone."

He goes on to say that he plans to fly from New York to Los Angeles "for the day just to straighten you out on this issue."

Baldwin's spokesman said in a statement Thursday that, "in the best interest of the child," the 49-year-old actor "will do what the mother is pathologically incapable of doing ... keeping his mouth shut and obeying the court order.

"The mother and her lawyer leaked this sealed material in violation of a court order," he continued. "Although Alec acknowledges that he should have used different language in parenting his child, everyone who knows him privately knows what he has been put through for the past six years."

"The voice mail speaks for itself," Basinger's spokeswoman said. Calls to Basinger's and Baldwin's attorneys were not returned.

Baldwin and Basinger, 53, were married in 1993. They have been involved in prolonged legal disputes over custody and other issues since she filed for divorce in 2001, which was granted in 2002. The couple's differences have been aired several times in public.

Basinger was charged with contempt of court in October for violating terms of a 2004 custody agreement. A motion by her lawyers to dismiss the charges was denied Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. The next hearing on visitation issues is scheduled for May 4.

Both parents are guilty of doing this in an effort to hurt each other. However, Alec's comments really disturbed me here. He's not talking to a grown woman but a 12 year old girl. Parents are human just like anyone else but using this type of language in reference to your daughter is'nt acceptable. I won't be suprised if his daughter ends up in the porn business or on drugs in the future. I actually think the daughter should be taken away from both parents, it's obvious their little spat is problematic.

If the kid is anything like most 11-year olds, she is a rude little pig.

They can't help it. You need to discipline kids and talk to them about showing respect and all that, but a deranged rant attacking their mother isn't necessarily a good approach.

anybody who has been around teens knows they can be brainless, rude little pigs. That doesn't mean he should've said it because he shouldn't have. However, an incident that was bad has been turned into a tragedy by leaking this voicemail to the media.....which is the mother's doing. Apparently, someone got a court order to get it. How anyone would know about it unless the mother told is beyond me.

what it sounded like to me is that Alex got a phone for his daughter so he can call her at certain times during the day and his daughter decided she wasn't going to answer her phone eventhough she knows he's going to call. No telling how long she blew off his calls for him to be that angry. I bet that's the only way he can talk to her since he doesn't talk to her mother.

Also, they've been going through a custody battle for a while now.....of course the daughter has learned to manipulate and pit one parent against another all children do that during normal times but it's worse when parents are seperated.

Oh and 'rude little pig' is mean and not nice in the least but lets not act like this is the height of verbal abuse. There are little girls getting called sluts, ****s, whores, bitches, worthless peices of shit, etc. etc. and getting hit along with it. Alex needs to work on better handleing his anger and needs to apologize to his daughter but really it wasn't that big a deal.

and I hope he does straigten her ass out when he gets on that plane. :tape:

don't you think if they had a worse example they would've leaked that instead? They've been going through a six year custody battle and this is the first we hear of this? It just sounds like he lost his temper and left a message he shouldn't have and her mother thinking she hit the jackpot leaked it. Frankly, if the mother did leak it it's way way way more abusive than the message. All Alex has to say is sorry I don't think you are a pig, I love you baby. I lost my head but what does Kim say about deliberately leaking it to the press?

Perhaps you're correct but it also could have been the first time he left it on the phone or perhaps this was the last straw. Of course neither of us will ever know. The strange thing it that the daughter is almost 12 years old and when I was 12 I only went with my folks if I had to. I'd much rather be with my friends. I don't think if would have been as bad if Alec lived at home with the daughter. The bold portion could also sound like an abusive person. You know they're always sorry. I'm not saying that he is abusive because I don't know. Anyhow, they shall survive.

Yeah but I guess if he's abusive then she would answer the phone cause she doesn't want to trigger him. He just sounded like he felt he got played and then had a serious flashback to her mother and lost it. It's not something we should've ever heard. That was between him and his daughter. I also see that a lot of people are upset by the fact that he's cursing. For some people cursing is the norm and it doesn't mean as much as it does to others. I know my mom never cursed and if she cursed at me I would be shocked but my dad cursed every other word so when he cursed at you it was nothing special.

Let me just say that what Alex said was completely wrong and he definitely has anger issues that he needs to work out but some twelve year olds are not precious angels and they spend every waking moment trying you.

We just have no idea of the backstory or how the daughter was acting. My neice is 9 and I can't ever seeing her not answer her father's call, EVER unless she's doing bad things and doesn't want to hear it.

Oh well I feel for the little girl....not because of the tongue lashing by her father but because it's been shared with the whole world for no reason. :(

My parent's didn't talk like trailer trash to us, but some people have no class. I really don't sympathize with either parent(Nicole or Alec) in this case either. They should never allow their own personal battles with each other get in the way of raising their daughter. I bet the girl is a brat, but they made her that way. As for Alec, I heard the message on a tv show, and it didn't seem that bad to me. The problem isn't what he said it's that the world has heard him say it -- thanks to Kim and her lawyer.
