You don't want to have Venus, definitely not in your first [match]," Schnyder said. "That's really rough. I just want to be happy with my game, and if it's good enough to beat Venus, great. I have no idea how to beat her, otherwise I would maybe have achieved it earlier in my career."

poor patty

i'm sure she will try to beat venus, she's not exactly saying she is going to tank is she?

venus will have to play consistent to beat patty and try and keep the rallies short

go vee!

Hit it to her backhand, Patty. Also, she's terrible @ shots when she's stretched out wide and on the run.

If you don't know how to beat her, than how did you get 5 match points on a hard court with a simple put away on the 1st?

She's had close matches with Venus, but really the match is in Vee's hands.

Good for you, It's been so long since Patty did anything on the court no wonder she has such a poor attitude...get off your butt and play some of that competitive tennis you used to possess!:bounce:

Patty is right though, she doesn't know how to beat Venus, I don't think anything is wrong with her attitude here, she is just being honest.

You don't let a player on to that though.
A lot of players have gone on years and years without beating Venus and then find a way to beat her.
None of them have let on that they really didn't know how to beat her though.

Another interesting note.
The last time I remember hearing the words "I like playing this player", from Venus was against Denisa Chladkova.
Umm, and Denisa hasn't been seen since.
If Patty isn't careful she could be making her own dissapearing act as well.

Mind you, had Patty said she had ideas about how to play Venus, and expressed hope, she'd be bbq'd for that too.

I would rather hear a delusional positive than an honest negative.
I would have rather heard Patty say "I'm going to kick her ass", than "if I knew how to beat I would have done it by now".
Other players have been in her position before with Venus.

Silvia Farina Elia took 8 years to beat Venus.
It took Mauresmo 5 years to beat Venus.
Sandrine Testud took 5 years to beat Venus.
Monica Seles took 4 years to beat Venus.

And none of these players would ever admit that they didn't know how to beat her even if they thought it was true before they beat her.
They wouldn't admit to the world that Venus was in their head.
She could have taken a middle ground and not admitted that, given Venus her props and just let her play do as much talking as she can.

She just doesn't seem to want to be around for more than another year.
I didn't hear one comment from Patty before the Australian Open.
I thought she could have at least mentioned that she believed that she could do a round better at this year's Australian Open or at least make the same round.
Nothing positive.
It just seems like she's acknowledge that she probably peaked with her gamestyle and can't do any better.
The same with Schiavone.

i would have said it is a good attitude. she's going to give it her best and hope it enoughs. she had a horrible record of Justine with a lot of close matches and she turned that around on green clay last year as well.

1) Patty has never been one for easy answers

2) you obviously weren't listening very hard before the australian open because she got blasted on this site for saying her goal was to go top 5.

3) she has come out of retirement from Fed Cup so she can qualify for the end of 2008 Olympics so i'm thinking she's looking to stay around longer than a year

4) I don't understand how a player who had match points against the world number one on a big winning streak can get so much crap for being so out of form.
