Graf Tauziat is the most impressive one in history, mostly because Nat was a GREAT player, and she had evrything to make matches way more difficult than Graf made it look.
Zina met Martina 24 times of these 33 matches in fast courts, and was quite useless. look at the other meetings and watch how the younger player was able to cause her damage.

Sadly, Nat never had a chance to play Graf on Grass.

also, it should be noted that Tauziat was at her best after 30, as we all know. zina was pretty much solid her complete career, although 1990 wimbeldon was wow wow wow.

Even Zina's one win was a nailbiter: 1988 US Open QF Garrison def. Navratilova 6-4 6-7 7-5

I never saw this one, but surely Zina was ecstatic!

Chris Evert leads Virginia Ruzici 23-0, but they're not all in straight sets like Graf/Tauziat's record. But Ruzici won Roland Garros and finished runner-up another year so it's still pretty embarrasing :o

I did. Zina led 6-4, 5-0 (or 5-1), and Martina came back. I stopped watching after the second set and couldn't believe Zina pulled it out.

Nat/Graf made the final of Bermingham in '98. Nat led 3-0 and the match was called due to rain and never made up.

Nat started her career as a baseliner. When she started to attack, her results were much better.

actually that was in the semis ;)
Graf was coming back from injuries and wasn't at her best...

but yeah, that was very unfortunate for Nathalie...
looked like she had a good chance to finally beat Graf

another player with an awful record against Graf did beat her two weeks later at Wimbledon ;) :p

More contemporary, I think the Hingis - Sanchez-Vicario stats are one sided. Hingis is up like 15-2 or 16-2. For two players, with similar game styles, that is surprising. Or Hingis and Seles 15-2, similar as well.

:worship:
Zina got owned & bitch slapped for over a decade  !!

Zina tried her best and had just bad timing for when she had to play Martina.
Zina was playing her best tennis at the 1990 Wimbledon.
She beat Monica Seles and Steffi Graf in two amazing 3rd set matches.
She just didn't have enough against Martina.

I don't know many if any players who could beat those two back to back and still have some left in the gas tank.

These type of stats always amaze me because although garrison wasn't a dominate player she was from what i know "consistent" so that to me is more of Martina's brilliance than garrison's lack of ability but still it is an amazing stat lol

Steffis 30-4 vs Novotna is pretty amazing considering jana was a GS champ, i guess it was cos theyre slices were pretty similar but forehands were like comparing a ford focus to a ferarri:worship:

Zina Garrison and Pam Shriver were serve-and-volleyers, just like Navratilova. It's tough to beat a master at their own game.

That's a great leadership, Steffi was doing everything better than Nathalie (maybe Nathalie just had a better flat backhand, more natural)

But Nathalie has had a great opportunity in 1998, Steffi was coming back from injury and needed 3 sets to beat Rennae Stubbs in the 3rd round, Nathalie was leading 4/2 and serve when the match was stopped by the rain, that was the end because the all tournament was cancelled after that.

Maybe it's half a victory in Nathalie's mind, she can say now she has finished a match ahead of Steffi.;)

Actually, I still think Nathalie would have win this one, Steffi was coming back from injury, and lost against Kournikova in Eastbourne the week after, and against Zvereva in Wimbledon, when Nathalie made her way to the final...

But leading isn't winning:p

That's not it. Zina never had the style of game needed to beat Martina.................she had nothing to hurt her, and everything that Zina could do, Martina could just do better.
