I certainly wasn't expecting Karolina to win this match although I did expect a breakthrough sometime during the clay season.

As to what she's doing differently now my guess is alot of it is playing on clay a surface she is much more comfortable on than hardcourts. And winning matches brings confidence which helps win more matches. Just getting past qualifying and getting the chance to play a few matches in a row obviously has made a huge difference. Will be interesting to see where she goes from here.

Honestly, I don't see what the big surprise is? I'm not a very big Sprem fan but it was obvious when watching her in the past she had talent. Her main problem, as we all know, is consistency. Seeing her beat players who are ranked much higher than her shouldn't really be a surprise, after all she did reach the QF of Wimbledon and has an impressive game when it's on. Congrats and good luck in the next round

As for Na, it's not that bad of a loss. They both have similar games and plus it's only her first clay tournament of the year. Good luck with the rest of your clay season!

Certainly a nice, but not a shocking win for Sprem, considering the style of game of Na Li, who is quite similar to Karolina in a way that he is capable to lose to anybody when he shots are off. I expect smarter player like Bammer to beat Sprem in the next round. Karolina will never be a consistent player, because he has only one way to play - attack. I know a whole bunch of you likes her for that, but mixing it up once in a while wouldnt hurt. Has anyone seen her to hit a slice ever?

Wow! I wasn´t expecting. I think Karolina really concentratred in this match to show Na Li how well and hard she can hit. As always, Sprem in good form is a really amazing player. I just didn´t think that she would play well in this tournament... keep going.:worship:

No, Na was not making a huge amount of errors. Karolina was getting the better of the exchanges, hitting more winners. Na was getting her second serve pounced on. It wasn`t a route, but Na was always playing catchup and Karolina closed out the sets.

I doubt it, she was out on the practice courts all during the qualifying rounds. I saw her and who I think is her husband many times. Her coach, the Australian guy Stollie was at the match this a.m.

This usually happens with good players. The slump has to end somewhere, and it looks like it has this week for Karolina.

I'm not contesting the fact that shes too one-dimensional, but to answer your question, yes I have seen her slice and Ive seen her hit some lovely drop shots as well. It's not that Karolina CANT mix her game up, its that shes stubborn and doesnt seem to understand when it might be best (percentage wise) to take some power off her shots.

And also, I'd just like to point out that people shouldnt be too quick to suggest that all of Sprem's problems are solved as a result of this win. This is just one match. I think the biggest thing K-Lina will get from this is confidence, but her game will probably still be erratic. Let's just see how her next few matches/events go to see if this week will have really made a difference for her.
