Finally the list is out...8 top 10 (Belgians missing) and 44 of the first 48 (plus Venus and Mirza missing)

Well...for now the list is great...Shame Justine is always missing, but...good anyway...

naaah the tournament field is strong now, but in 2-3 weeks at least 5 top50 players would withdrew !

No Henin. No Clijsters. Most probably no Sharapova. Mauresmo will be coming off illness so she is questionable too. Serena is always questionable for European tournies. No Myskina too even though she's not big loss for the event.
If all aforementioned players are missing (which is very possible) the only Slam champion playing will be Hingis

Not surprising that it is a great field! Rome! :worship:

I hope Martina can defend her title, though it will be very very tough.

Why isn't Venus playing, she has semifinal points to defend!?

Semifinals:

Henin d. Mauresmo
Clijsters d. Myskina

Far from weak match-ups, imo...

Semifinal points. Lost to Hingis 06 64 64 I think.

Why won't she defend?

it as 0-6 6-3 6-3.

And, I don't ever think I've seen Venus
play two straights weeks just before a Slam.

She's playing Istanbul, the week before RG.
And Rome would be the week before Istanbul.

Besides, her win in Memphis
covers the SF Rome points.
