Looking forward to Nicole's clay season starting.

This is another Tier I with a packed field so some nice matches likely..

She reached the QF here back in 2005 so hope Nicole will have another good run.

Sexysova
Mar 29th, 2007, 06:27 AM
maybe she will have better chances against Peer, S.Williams, Zvonareva, Li etc... :) if she will play as on RG 06 she will reach min. semifinal ;) maybe Nicole will have the best performances on clay... :)

Go Nikki!!

Vaidisova
Mar 29th, 2007, 08:58 PM
Charleston is the first of three Tier I clay tournaments for Nicole.

Nicole will need to continue having good results in these big tournaments so that she can be a top 8 seed at RG.

Sexysova
Mar 30th, 2007, 04:06 AM
she can be #7 seed on RG, because I heard that Clijsters won't play it and maybe some player before nicole won't play it too(injuries etc.) so come on nicole :)

Good luck Nikki. :yeah:

I remember in 2005 when she saved match points to beat Peer in R1, then beat Myskina in R2 who said something like she only has a serve.

Oh, how times have changed.

Vaidisova
Mar 30th, 2007, 05:08 AM
Her win over Myskina in 2005 was Nicole's first top 10 victory. :)

Her win over Myskina in 2005 was Nicole's first top 10 victory. :)

Charleston was also her first Tier I Quarter Final. :worship:

I hope she can at least match that feat this time around too.

I guess Nicole will still be wearing AO dress since we haven't seen anything new yet from RBK. :(

u're right, NIKE players change their outfits in miami, Masha, Daniela, Serena, but RBK and Adidas seems not yet, hope they will have beautiful dress for Nicole before RG.:bounce:

Sharapower8
Mar 31st, 2007, 10:33 AM
But she said that she was going to change outfit on clay !

Vaidisova
Mar 31st, 2007, 10:53 PM
Since Nicole will likely be 4th seed she will get either Jankovic, S. Williams, Safina, or Peer in QF. All tough but there will be tough opponents before the QF.

Derek.

Ugh, of course Nikki will get Serena in the QF.

She's been getting horrible draws in 07. :o

Vaidisova
Apr 2nd, 2007, 05:16 AM
I'd like to see her play Jelena. They've played each other a lot recently and their last matches have been 3 setters.

Sharapova's_Boy
Apr 2nd, 2007, 06:44 AM
Yeah, Nikki and Jelena always seem to have some really tough matches against each other.

I hope to god Nikki is drawn in Maria's half. Although it remains to be seen if both of them can get to the Semis.

Vaidisova

Sexysova
Apr 2nd, 2007, 05:14 PM

Apr 4th, 2007, 06:12 PM
I really hope that Nicole will reach semifinal because she didn't do well on GREEN CLAY last year... so... :( on red clay(Rome, Strasbourg and RG) she did very well... but what on green clay? I hope for great result...

and which is difference between green and red clay?

Derek.
Apr 5th, 2007, 03:57 AM
I'm expecting a semifinal.

It's one of those tournaments where Nicole has a really good chance to make the final.

Hopefully she takes advantage of her seeding.

Sexysova
Apr 5th, 2007, 05:08 AM
so results from 2005 - I think I don't have to be afraid of that Nicole can't play on green clay :)

gl nicole... you can win the title on clay :):bounce:

Neptune
Apr 5th, 2007, 11:09 AM
There is a danger. She could face a clay player like in 2006.But it could be interesting to see how she will come through. If she gets Serena in Qf, it will be the third time since the beginning of the season. So, I hope she will face Dinara or Patty. Her confidence needs to come back.

When the draw will be out?

Sexysova
Apr 5th, 2007, 12:59 PM
I think Charleston is -06:00 hours from my time(CET) :) so... in the evening and in France is CET too if I'm right... so on Sunday but I don't know when... maybe on Sunday at 12PM in Charleston :) maybe "VAIDISOVA" will know it ;) (s)he knows everything :)

I hope for Patty or Dinara too, Serena and Shahar are very dangerous but I think maybe Serena on clay  ... we will see... I hope for great draw :)

Vaidisova
Apr 5th, 2007, 01:24 PM
I think the draw will be out on Saturday - that is when it was posted last year.

This will be Serena's first clay tournament since 2005 so it will be interesting to see how she does. Patty has not had a good year, but she is always dangerous on clay and reached final here last year. Dinara and Shahar will be tough too, so whoever she is drawn to face will be a test.

Sexysova
Apr 5th, 2007, 01:32 PM

Vaidisova
Apr 6th, 2007, 03:56 PM
Kuznetsova is no longer listed on the players list: http://www.familycirclecup.com/pages/articles/20070305094304.html

So Nicole will be #2 seed and no Serena in QF. :p

Sexysova
Apr 6th, 2007, 05:19 PM
super... but Ivanovic and Peer can be very dangerous opponent :) but Nicole should reach qf :) I hope for it and I hope for high :)

now I'm watching venus vs. tati from AI and green clay is really bit faster but really only a bit :) so Nicole should have great chance :)

Neptune
Apr 6th, 2007, 06:46 PM
Thanks for the news. :yeah:.I'm waiting for the draw now.Green clay is really fast, I wasn't thinking it will be so fast but like you, I watched the match today and I was surprised.

Vaidisova
Apr 6th, 2007, 07:30 PM
The last time Nicole was a #2 seed at the tournament she ended up winning it all (Strasbourg). :p

She only has to win 2 matches to get to QF so if can't do that then. :tape: A SF result would be great here. Looking forward to the draw tomorrow.

Top seed hopes for better fate
Vaidisova recalls she lost in first round the only other time she was No. 1 at an event

CHARLESTON — There are a few things you ought to know about Nicole Vaidisova, this year’s top seed at the Family Circle Cup.

• Contrary to popular belief, her best finish at the Family Circle was not last year when she parallel parked her dad’s rental car (she had just gotten her learner’s permit). Rather, it was her debut in 2005 when she upset third-seeded Anastasia Myskina for her first win against a top-10 opponent.

• She didn’t know she would be the top seed this year until she arrived in town on Sunday. It was unclear whether or not she drove.

• She is very girly and freely admits being so. She puts a lot of thought into what she wears on the court and what jewelry she wears off it.

• She has been the top seed in a tournament only once, but that did not turn out well. She lost in the first round of last year’s Tier III tournament in Memphis.

• She became the top seed this week because five women ranked ahead of her recently withdrew.

• She will not be 18 until April 23.

Fun stuff, but lest opponents take her lightly, they should know the 6-footer with an all-surface game is playing the best tennis of her career.

“I didn’t know I was No. 1 until I saw the draw,” Vaidisova said with a laugh. “You want to be the No. 1, but it’s not much different than being the eighth seed or ninth seed.”

Vaidisova, who is from the Czech Republic, began playing on the WTA Tour in 2004. By the end of 2005, she was ranked No. 15.

After an early exit at last year’s Family Circle Cup, Vaidisova heated up overseas, reaching the semifinals of a Grand Slam event for the first time at the French Open. As the 16th seed, Vaidisova upset top seed Amelie Mauresmo and routed Venus Williams.

That performance, combined with semifinal appearance at the Tier I event in San Diego, moved her into the top 10 for the first time. She became the 12th-youngest player in tour history to reach the top 10.

This week, Vaidisova is ranked eighth, but she hopes to use the clay-court season to improve that ranking.

“I grew up on clay, so basically, it’s one of my favorite surfaces,” she said. “Being No. 1, it will be a little different that usual, but it doesn’t really change anything. It’s a tough draw, you know, you have Serena (Williams) here and Venus (Williams) here. We’ll see how far (that) takes me in the rankings.”

Rising star by design

BY GENE SAPAKOFF

Nicole Vaidisova hopes to follow Serena Williams into the clothing design business. The personable 17-year-old likes jewelry, too.

She stops, however, at the idea of branching out into signature furniture.

"I don't think anyone wants a Nicole Vaidisova leather chair," she said Monday with a giggle.

You never know. The way Vaidisova is moving up the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour ladder, all things tennis and marketing are possible.

Thanks to the injury defection of others and her own prowess, Vaidisova is the No. 1 seed in this week's Family Circle Cup.

"You want to be, of course, No. 1. It's definitely a little different playing from No. 18 or 19, a little more pressure," said Vaidisova, who was born in Germany, raised in the Czech Republic and trained at the Nick Bollettieri tennis academy in Bradenton, Fla.

"But I think it's good. We'll see how it goes."

Slowly, surely, the Madonna and hockey fan is making progress. First hailed a few years ago as "the next big thing," Vaidisova, a 6-0, 139-pound right-hander, finished 2004 at No. 77 in the WTA rankings. She shot up to No. 15 in 2005 and No. 10 in 2006.

She currently is No. 8 and angling toward the French Open, where she reached the semifinals last June.

Vaidisova upset Amelie Mauresmo and Venus Williams on the famed red clay of Roland Garros before losing to Svetlana Kuznetsova.

"I'm just really looking forward to going back to Paris," Vaidisova said.

"It was such a great atmosphere playing there and I'll see if I can do it this year as well."

Vaidisova has been a No. 1 seed just once before on tour, at a Tier III tournament in Memphis last year. She lost in the first round.

At 15, Vaidisova reached the Family Circle Cup quarterfinals in 2005, earning her first victory over a top 10-ranked player, No. 6 Anastasia Myskina.

A Vaidisova-Serena Williams final is possible this year. Even if Vaidisova loses, she might pick up some fashion feedback from someone she admires as a player and clothing designer.

"She always comes up with something new," Vaidisova said. "I will try to do my little thing. Of course, we have totally different styles. I'll try to mix it up a little bit with different materials and looks."

She did have trouble with Misa in Miami though, so maybe it's an on-going thing with Misa in particular and Nicole has never done really well on green clay.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't. Nicole will be fine, perhaps she needs to get used to the surface. Besides Misa proved that the Miami result wasn't a fluke. Maybe her game style isn't convenient to Nicole.

Vaidisova upset at Family Circle Cup

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Top-seeded Nicole Vaidisova was upset Tuesday at the Family Circle Cup, falling to unseeded Michaella Krajicek 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

It was the only the second time in her career that Vaidisova, ranked No. 8 in the world, had entered a tour event as a top seed. Again, as she was at Memphis last year, she was eliminated in her first match.

"I didn't feel in any part of the match I played well," said Vaidisova, of the Czech Republic. "I wasn't really hung up on the fact I was the No. 1 seed, but of course I'm disappointed."

Vaidisova's loss leaves No. 9 Jelena Jankovic of Serbia as the highest-ranked player remaining at the Family Circle.

Krajicek, sister of 1996 Wimbledon men's champion Richard Krajicek, is ranked 54th.

Why the english speaking people still use this term? It's not a formal diplomatic encounter, is it? In informal cases it's simply Czechia. Just like Slovakia, Russia or Serbia. :fiery:

Czechia?

I never knew it was called that.

We learn it in school as "the Czech Republic".
Unfortunately, few people know that the said geographic name is not only correct but, in informal situations, certainly more adequate than “the Czech Republic“. English-speaking/writing media and institutions are usually somewhat embarrassed when we try to inform them about CZECHIA as the standard one-word geographic name authorized and recommended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1993) and included in the UNO Gazetteers of Geographical Names (1993). 1) On the other hand, the German equivalent TSCHECHIEN was almost immediately adopted in German-speaking countries and has been widely used there as a natural and necessary counterpart to “die Tschechische Republik“. 2) If users of English language ignored CZECHIA, it would be a serious and needless deviation from traditional rules underlying the system of geographic names in general:

A vast majority of modern states have adopted two names. The political name gives information about the type of government (Kingdom, Federal Republic) and therefore usually consists of more than one word; it is applied in diplomatic negotiations, in texts of treaties, etc. The geographic name, as a rule in one word, appears in maps, on postage stamps, on the outfit of national football teams and, in particular, in daily conversation and in texts of non-official character. In accordance with this model, this country used to be known under the names Československá republika/the Czechoslovak Republic, and Československo/Czechoslovakia. After the “velvet divorce“ in 1993, each of the two newly arisen states followed the traditional model: the Slovak Republic/Slovakia, and the Czech Republic/ —?? I dare say that most non-prejudiced persons would automatically add what is missing: CZECHIA. Quite right. Why should there be a gap in the system? There are no rational reasons for that, either historical or linguistic. The name CZECHIA is no ad hoc invention. If you visit St. James´ church in Prague-Old Town, you can read the name CZECHIA period. In terms of linguistic, the suffix -ia is a frequent phenomenon in English language and the word is derived from the name of the majority nation just as the original is. Then, why do some of our English-speaking partners hesitate to use CZECHIA?

Michaella Krajicek defeats Nicole Vaidisova
4-6, 6-4, 6-3
Second Round

AMY BINDER: Questions for Nicole, please.

Q. Could you just talk about the match and how it slipped away from you, I guess?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I didn't feel in any part of the match that I really played well, or I got into the rhythm at all. So it wasn't that I had the match at one point. I just didn't feel like I played well, didn't do really well in any part of the game, so I'm a little disappointed with that.

Q. I think earlier this month you played her in Miami. Anything different in the way she was playing from then to now?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Like I said, it was really, no. It was really me a lot, so many unforced errors. My rhythm was off. I just didn't feel great
playing today, and of course, I'm disappointed. I wanted to do better. I practiced pretty well the last couple days, and then you go out and you play like I did today. It's disappointing.

Q. Where do you go from here?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I go to Florida and then Fed Cup next week.

Q. Back home?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I'll go to Florida for a couple days and then to Slovakia for the Fed Cup.

Q. You left in the first set briefly. Sick or just --

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I just had to go to the bathroom.

Q. Is it tough to come in here as the No. 1 seed and have to leave so early?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Like I said before the tournament, I wasn't really hung up on the fact that I'm the No. 1 seed, but of course, I'm disappointed in general to be as fast out of here, especially with the performance that I had today.

AMY BINDER: Anything else? Thank you.

I really thought it officially was "Czech Republic". In Holland we say "Tsjechië", not "Tsjechische republiek", so that comes close to "Czechia". I'll remember to say Czechia in English next time.

I agree, but the British and American media always write "the Czech Republic", never "Czechia". It's probably because the word "Czechia" doesn't come naturally from "Czechoslovakia", so anyone who wrote "Czechia" would be perceived as illiterate. It's a shame, really, as "Czech Republic" sounds too political to me.

Nicole herself has been quoted as calling it "Czech Republic" or simply "Czech".

FAMILY CIRCLE CUP (Charleston, South Carolina, USA; green clay; Tier I)
================= http://www.familycirclecup.com/ (http://www.familycirclecup.com/)

NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ [1,EF]:
1r bye
2r - Michaëlla Krajíček [WC], 6-4 4-6 3-6

Prior to this tournament, all of Nicole's losses this year had been to either the eventual champion or runner-up (Jelena Janković at Sydney, Serena Williams at the Australian Open and Miami, Lucie Šafářová at Paris, and Svetlana Kuznetsova at Indian Wells).

So this is by far Nicole's worst loss of the year so far - which just underlines what a high standard she's been maintaining. She also has the ignominy of being the first #1 seed to lose her opening match in the 35-year history of the tournament, which I'm sure just delights the haters who said beforehand that she didn't deserve to be the top seed of a Tier I. :o

Being the top seed of a WTA-tournament seems to jinx Nicole. The only other time was at Memphis 2006, where she ended up being the wooden-spoonist of the tournament! :o This time, however, Nicole avoided being on the wooden-spoon chain as Michaëlla went on to upset Sybille Bammer [15] before losing to my other fanee at this tournament, Vera Zvonarëva (http://geocities.com/andrewbroad/tennis/zvona/), in the quarter-finals.

It's getting scarily close to a time when Nicole may have gone a whole year without having added to her 6 WTA singles-titles! Her latest was Strasbourg last May (just before she reached the semi-finals of the French Open and got herself inducted into my Eternal Fanship).

Nicole has yet to win a title - or even reach a final - above Tier III. But with Ana Ivanović, Anna Chakvetadze (http://geocities.com/andrewbroad/tennis/chakv/), Daniela Hantuchová (http://geocities.com/andrewbroad/tennis/hantu/) and even Tatiana Golovin winning Tier I/II titles in recent months, Nicole's time will surely come before too long.

Heading the seedings is Nicole Vaidišová. This is the second time that the Czech teen has grabbed the No.1 seed at a WTA Tour event, having done so at the Tier III event in Memphis a year ago, where she fell in her opening match. She hopes to fare better in this week's Tier I-level event.

She has good and bad memories in two previous appearances here, notching her first top-ten win en route to the quarter-finals two years ago (over Anastasia Myskina), but losing her opening match one year ago. She will begin against Michaëlla Krajíček or Alina Jidkova after a first-round bye.

Top seed hopes for better fate
Vaidišová recalls she lost in first round the only other time she was No. 1 at an event
By Patrick Obley

CHARLESTON — There are a few things you ought to know about Nicole Vaidišová, this year's top seed at the Family Circle Cup.

• Contrary to popular belief, her best finish at the Family Circle was not last year when she parallel-parked her dad's rental car (she had just gotten her learner's permit). Rather, it was her début in 2005 when she upset third-seeded Anastasia Myskina for her first win against a top-10 opponent.

• She didn't know she would be the top seed this year until she arrived in town on Sunday. It was unclear whether or not she drove.

• She is very girly and freely admits being so. She puts a lot of thought into what she wears on the court and what jewelry she wears off it.

• She has been the top seed in a tournament only once, but that did not turn out well. She lost in the first round of last year's Tier III tournament in Memphis.

• She became the top seed this week because five women ranked ahead of her recently withdrew, as did the defending champion, Nadia Petrova.

• She will not be 18 until April 23.

Fun stuff, but lest opponents take her lightly, they should know the 6-footer with an all-surface game is playing the best tennis of her career.

"I didn't know I was No. 1 until I saw the draw," Vaidišová said with a laugh. "You want to be the No. 1, but it's not much different than being the eighth seed or ninth seed."

Vaidišová, who is from the Czech Republic, began playing on the WTA Tour in 2004. By the end of 2005, she was ranked No. 15.

After an early exit at last year's Family Circle Cup, Vaidišová heated up overseas, reaching the semi-finals of a Grand Slam event for the first time at the French Open. As the 16th seed, Vaidišová upset top seed Amélie Mauresmo, and routed Venus Williams.

That performance, combined with semi-final appearance at the Tier I event in San Diego, moved her into the top 10 for the first time. She became the 12th-youngest player in Tour-history to reach the top 10.

This week, Vaidišová is ranked eighth, but she hopes to use the clay-court season to improve that ranking.

"I grew up on clay, so basically, it's one of my favourite surfaces," she said. "Being No. 1, it will be a little different than usual, but it doesn't really change anything. It's a tough draw, you know, you have Serena [Williams] here and Venus [Williams] here. We'll see how far [that] takes me in the rankings."

More quotes from Nicole
-----------------------

"I don't think anyone wants a Nicole Vaidišová leather-chair! <giggling>

"You want to be, of course, No. 1. It's definitely a little different playing from No. 18 or 19 - a little more pressure. But I think it's good. We'll see how it goes."

"I'm just really looking forward to going back to Paris [for the French Open]. It was such a great atmosphere playing there, and I'll see if I can do it this year as well."

[Re. Serena Williams the clothing-designer]
"She always comes up with something new. I will try to do my little thing. Of course, we have totally different styles. I'll try to mix it up a little bit with different materials and looks."

Second round (Tuesday 10th April)

- NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ [1,EF] lt. Michaëlla Krajíček [WC], 6-4 4-6 3-6

Nicole and Michaëlla had their first meeting in Miami just a few weeks ago, and Nicole struggled to a 4-6 7-5 6-2 victory. So it's ironic that this time she won the first set but lost the match!

18-year-old Michaëlla is one of the more attractive girls on the WTA Tour, although I preferred her hair in a ponytail. She's also said to be a big server, although I didn't see much evidence of this the only time I've seen her play: a 6-1 6-2 loss to Patty Schnyder in 1r French Open 2006.

Krajíček is a Czech name, but Michaëlla recently reaffirmed her intention to remain Dutch. If she were Czech, she'd take the feminine version of her surname: Krajčová.

Nicole serving 2-2: broken to love despite four first serves!

Nicole serving 3-5: This was when I first checked the live scoreboard. I was hoping that Nicole would hold for 4-5*, forcing Michaëlla to serve it out, and then we would have seen what the young Dutch girl was really made of. But instead, Nicole just got broken to love again! :(

Prior to the [Serena Williams] injury-shocker in the evening, there was another surprise on stadium-court, as Vaidišová, the tournament's top seed, was sent packing by fellow teen Michaëlla Krajíček in three tough sets, 4-6 6-4 6-3.

In a battle between two of the biggest servers on the WTA Tour, Krajíček prevailed despite hitting fewer aces (4:9) and more double faults (10:8); but she grabbed critical breaks, in the seventh game of the second set and the fifth and last games of the third, to gain revenge for a loss in the pair's only prior encounter, in the same round of Miami just a few weeks ago.

Krajíček took home her second career top-ten win; last June at 's-Hertogenbosch, she defeated Elena Dementieva in the semi-finals.

Vaidišová became the first No.1 seed to fall this early in the 35-year history of the Family Circle Cup.

>>>
Wild card Michaëlla Krajíček struggled to locate the service-box, but had no trouble finding the finish-line in crafting a memorable clay-court victory. Krajíček won eight of the last nine points to topple top-seeded Nicole Vaidišová, 4-6 6-4 6-3, and advance to the Family Circle Cup round of 16 in Charleston.

Vaidišová was seeded first by virtue of the withdrawals of top-ranked Justine Henin, and former world No. 1 players Amélie Mauresmo and Maria Sharapova.

It was Krajíček's first win over a top-10 player since she defeated eighth-ranked Elena Dementieva last June en route to winning the Tier III 's-Hertogenbosch title.

The 54th-ranked Krajíček overcame 10 double faults, and saved three of the six break-points she faced. Krajíček opened up a 4-3 final-set lead, then held at 15 to stretch the lead to 5-3 before closing out the match at love on Vaidišová's serve.

The match was a rematch of the second round of last month's Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. Vaidišová lost the first set in Miami, but rallied for a 4-6 7-5 6-2 triumph. Krajíček turned the tables today.

Nicole's press-conference
-------------------------

Q. Could you just talk about the match and how it slipped away from you, I guess?

NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ: I didn't feel in any part of the match that I really played well, or I got into the rhythm at all. So it wasn't that I had the match at one point. I just didn't feel like I played well, didn't do really well in any part of the game, so I'm a little disappointed with that.

Q. I think earlier this month you played her in Miami. Anything different in the way she was playing from then to now?

NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ: Like I said, it was really, no. It was really me a lot: so many unforced errors. My rhythm was off. I just didn't feel great playing today, and of course I'm disappointed. I wanted to do better. I practised pretty well the last couple days, and then you go out and you play like I did today. It's disappointing.

Q. Where do you go from here?

NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ: I go to Florida, and then Fed Cup next week.

Q. Back home?

NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ: I'll go to Florida for a couple days, and then to Slovakia for the Fed Cup.

Q. You left in the first set briefly. Sick or just -

NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ: I just had to go to the bathroom.

Q. Is it tough to come in here as the No. 1 seed and have to leave so early?

NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ: Like I said before the tournament, I wasn't really hung up on the fact that I'm the No. 1 seed, but of course I'm disappointed in general to be as fast out of here, especially with the performance that I had today.

Michaëlla's press-conference
----------------------------

Q. I saw where you played her earlier this year. Was there anything you took from that match into this match, or any intelligence picked up there?

MICHAËLLA KRAJÍČEK: Well, we played three weeks ago in Miami. It was a tough match. It was 6-4 in the first, and then it was 4-4, and then it was rain-delay. So for her it was a good rest by then in the second set, and she pulled out 7-5, and then she rushed through the third set 6-2, so she played really well that day.

I know she's a very big server. We played each other a few times in juniors as well. We know each other a lot. We played when we were young together, so yeah, I mean she serves really well, and today I had - on clay it's better to play her, because you can return some serves. You have more chances to hit some more points in every game, and although she won a lot of games by love or 40/15, it was good to let her play a few more points.

And I think I played a good match today. I served well in the second and the third. The first one was a little bit shaky for me, and yeah, the whole match was quite steady for me.

Q. You get any help with your serve from Richard or your dad teach both of you?

MICHAËLLA KRAJÍČEK: Yeah. Both of them. My dad is travelling with me as my coach from already when I was young, so that's good, and my brother helps me when I'm in Holland or sometimes when I'm playing a tournament, he comes over. And Miami he was. So yeah, he helps me a lot.

Q. Does knocking off the No. 1 seed make you feel pretty much like anything is possible in this tournament?

MICHAËLLA KRAJÍČEK: Yeah, for sure. It's a great win. I was looking forward to have a win like this, and especially when you beat the first seed, it's great, but also because I know Nicole already since we were young. So yeah, it was a good mental match as well to win.

Q. In the third set when she broke you to tie it at 2 to 2, you got pretty upset there. How did you respond at that point? I know you kind of yelled at yourself. But after that you seemed to take control of the end of the match.

MICHAËLLA KRAJÍČEK: Yeah. Sometimes for me it's better if I just tell myself what to do exactly. I mean her game is actually to serve and to return well, and the rest, you know, she can hit hard, but she misses a lot, too, so you don't get really in your rhythm when you are playing against her. And at the score of that time, she hit a good return and some good forehands, I think from the baseline. So that was tough to win that game, but I yelled at myself to hit more first serves in, and that was very important against her, because then she cannot hit the return straightaway.

Q. What was it like growing up in the background of being a sister of a Wimbledon-champion, and how old were you back when Richard won Wimbledon?

MICHAËLLA KRAJÍČEK: I was seven. I was at home watching [with] my dad, and he was playing at Wimbledon. So I don't remember too much of that. I know that I was more interested in my Barbies than in watching him play Wimbledon, so...

The only one who is illiterate are the english-speaking/writing media. It's annoying.
