if you draw up a list of top 10 doubles players of open era, gigi fernandez is the only one who wasn't also a top singles player

she has a better doubles record than jana novotna, prob her greatest rival, but nowhere near jana's record in singles

Some articles had it that it was PAM that strive for a wildcard for Yung-Jan Chan and Chia-Jung Chuang at AO this year.

Pam Shriver - 22 doubles titles and 1 mixed doubles title at GS tournaments to none in singles; besides that doubles gold medal at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul (w/Zina Garrison), 111 women's doubles titles overall...yeah and a record 109-match winning streak between 1983 and 1985 (w/Navratilova)...

Paola Suarez and Virginia Ruano Pascual have 8 Grand Slam titles. The only title missing is Wimbledon. Both are past their primes in singles, and were never that much of threat when they were. Paola is planning to retire from tennis at the end of the season. Vivi's singles game doesn't match up either with too weak a backhand and serve. However Paola is the better singles player between the two.
