Martina in 2008/2009 i guess

Vlad Tepes
Mar 4th, 2007, 08:48 AM
Martina has a good chance if she sticks around for a couple more years. Justine could very well reach 50, but with her it's a question of staying healthy and injury-free. Out of the others only Maria has a fair chance, as she is still very young, but she requires a huge number of tournament wins to get there.
BTW, we all know Kim has 0% chance of getting there, so why bother to put her in the poll?

Surprisingly, Serena has won less tournaments than Justine or Venus... that's really weird :help:

Back to the question... I think all of them have the potential to do so. Well, for Clijsters though, she would have to participate and win all the tounaments to reach 50...

Ryan
Mar 4th, 2007, 02:58 PM
I think that if everyone were to remain healthy, and play for another 3 years...

Hingis is the most obvious candidate since she's up at 43, and IMO should win another 2-3 events this year. Provided she plays for 2008/possibly '09, she should make 50.

I think Justine should if she's healthy, since IMO she has another 4 years in her.

I think that although Venus wont win a ton of majors, if she plays for another 3-4 she could pass 50 too.

I dont think Serena will just because she plays (at the moment) very sporadically and would need another 23 wins.

Sharapova definately could, if she plays until she's about 26-7.

trufanjay
Mar 4th, 2007, 03:05 PM
These players are too good for anyone to say they can't. I think Serena and Venus are a question mark ONLY because they don't play as much. IF Hingis sticks around for the next two years she has a chance. Kim Clijsters? I see no one voted for her because she will be gone this year and I doubt she'll win 16 events before October

Justine will. Mauresmo may win around 40-45 but we'll see. Sharapova can but we can't really predict her future.

goldenlox
Mar 4th, 2007, 03:16 PM
Sharapova has won 15 as a teen. But she still has 35 to go.
I don't see the older players getting there. Maybe Hingis, if she plays 3 more years.

LoveFifteen
Mar 4th, 2007, 03:53 PM
The only two that seem very, very likely are Hingis and Henin.

P.S. I can't believe more people aren't picking Hingis. The only players that have had more title success than her since her comeback are Mauresmo, Henin, Sharapova, Serena, and ... Petrova? (Am I missing anyone?)

Havok
Mar 4th, 2007, 03:54 PM
Hingis, Henin and Sharapova should make it.

Venus and Serena can also make it because they're close enough, but when they play such a shitty limited schedule all the time (and I highly doubt we'll be seeing a Serena 2002 performance, nor a Venus 2000-2001 performance again) they'll have a tough time getting there. Plus they get injured so much more now than before.

Mauresmo is getting old and I don't see her playing well into her 30's. She needs 26 more titles and it's not like she's a world beater and wins 5+ events per year.

I'm surprised Sharapova only has 15 titles. I know she's still young and all, but for being part of the elite and a pretty dominant player, I would have expected her to have already won 20 tournaments. Unless some freak injury happens, pencil her in to crack the 50 mark.

Sharapova.

Tennisaddict
Mar 4th, 2007, 04:03 PM
Hingis can win 10+ titles so I see her getting more than 50.
Henin also has that chance if she continues to win 4 or more titles a year.
Sharapova should get there with her consistency and she is still very young.
Venus and Serena also could theoretically but they donīt play as much maybe Venus will.

I see Serena winning 12 slams but not 50 wins.

amen!

she would have to win around 6 tournys per year for the next four years to get to 50. she might get like 6 one year, but since she doesnt really play she'll get like 3 the next. however since she shows up at a lot of the slams she will win many more. serena hasnt won more then 6 tournys since 4 years ago.

i still see hingis getting there. all she needs to do is do what shes been doing for the next 3 years but who nos how long shes gona stick around. henin perhaps she still has 20 more to go but if she stays healthy and consistent then she will def make it. if venus gets there is all in the hands of venus. she can win 4 tournys for the next four years if she plays. i dont think mauresmo can do it cuz she is already pretty old and has a long ways to go. shaprapova maybe but we cant see how she will be playing in 10 years so who knows

Hingis for sure. I'm actually not sure of Henin. She gets injured a lot is only planning to play 2 or 3 more years. So, I think her Venus and Serena are in the same boat. Injured too often, so prolly aren't going to win 50 tourneys. Plus, Henin like Serena cares more about Slams and so doesn't enter that many tourneys a year. But holy crap Henin just won back to back tourneys this year, so if she keeps this up then maybe.

Mar 4th, 2007, 06:05 PM
I definitely seeing Martina Hingis, and Justine Henin going above 50. BUT for Kim if she doesn't retire she can also easily take 50+ singles titles.

The question should be who can achieve 100+ career titles? :P Thats hard.

Davenport reached 36 doubles and 51 singles = 87 she needed just 13 more to reach 100.

Monica Seles has 6 doubles and 53 singles = 59 still 41 titles to go.

Martina Hingis has 37 doubles, 1 mixed, and 43 singles = 81, 19 to go.

I can't think of any player who played in the last decade (2007-1997) to top 100 titles, except Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graf. .... Have to look that up.

Ooops found one, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario has won 29 singles, 69 doubles, and 4 mixed giving her 102 career titles. Funny thing she won the French Open 3 times and the woman who owned her (18-2, 7-0 at the GS level) has yet to win it. :P Oh..... :P

Obviously Hingis, and Sharapova too, she'll do Lindsay-esque numbers in her career since she's so consistent, Henin, and also the WS, if they start playing more :o

Mauresmo would do well to win 35-40 titles, and as for Clijsters, good luck to her winning 16 titles in the next 9 months

lucashg
Mar 4th, 2007, 07:00 PM
Hingis is the safest bet since she's already so close and has showed she can win even important tournaments (Rome and Tokyo), getting some smaller ones won't be a problem.

Justine, Serena and Venus will all depend on their health and will to play, because they certainly can and/or should. Justine won't play more than 13-15 tournaments per year, so she has to keep winning at least four per season. Venus and Serena not only get injured as often as Justine (probably more), they also cut down much more. How many tournaments did play last year? Combined? 12? ...

Sharapova has 35 to go. It's an incredibly LONG shot. Clijsters is retiring so her name in this poll is quite pointless and Mauresmo is not that young, doesn't have the ability to win 5+ titles a season consistently and while I think she'll play fore more, what... 4 years, I don't see her reaching 50. Perhaps 40, but 30-35 is more likely.

So my vote goes to Martina and Justine.

Hingis - won NONE since the poll started and retired after at the end of the year.:oh:
Venus - added 10 titles since and counting...
Clijsters - ended career with 41 titles (retired soon after poll started, came back for about 2 years between 2009-2012 as a part-timer & added 7 titles :oh:)
Henin - ended with 43 titles (added 12 more when the poll started but her career only spanned like 2 years++ since - including retirement in between May 2008-2009)
Serena - won 22 titles since  and counting :rocker2:
Mauresmo - won 1 title since then and retired after 2.5 years.
Sharapova - 6 years passed and only 13 titles added so far (stands at 28 currently and counting).:oh:

This shows WTA is very unpredictable.:oh: and also shows that never count Williams out.:oh:
