On Wednesday, Sec of State Rice was complaining before a house panel about the dearth of linguists able to assist in the war on terror. She was there defending the president's spending bill.
After several such complaints, Rep. Gary Ackerman of New York asked why they had made no effort to hire the Arabic and Farsi linguists fired by the military for being gay. She sat there. He pressed the issue asking if the State Department had a policy disallowing the hiring of gays and lesbians. She said she was not aware of such a policy. When he asked again why if there was such a lack of translators, why she wasn't availing herself of this obvious pool, she sat saying nothing while other members of the panel chuckled.
He then added:"For some reason, the military seems more afraid of gay people than they are against terrorists, but they're very brave with the terrorists.. .If the terrorists ever got a hold of this information, they'd get a platoon of lesbians to chase us out of Baghdad."
"We'll look into it" was all Rice would respond with.
Sharon Alexander, deputy director of policy for Servicemembers' Legal Defense Network, later offered, in a news briefing, to introduce Rice to the recently fired servicemen and women.
Come on now, how can you openly discriminate out of one side of your mouth and then complain that there are no candidates on the other. I'm impressed with Ackerman for pushing the issue like that and not letting the administration get away with such lame double-speak.

Uh, if I recall, it was the 'do not ask, do not tell' policy of what
President....that is still being enforced.

If the Congress wishes to change that, they may any time.

That would be Bill Clinton.

Not Bush.
Not Cheney.

Clinton.
Accepted and Enforced Don't Ask/Don't Tell as the
law the military would follow.

Ditto for the Marriage Protection Act.
William Jefferson Clinton's name is on that law.
Supported it, Accepted it, Campaigned on it, Won with it.

Yet, another 'media' moment for the media hungry Congress...gotcha
Condi. Never mind the real issues..let's get our tv moment in so
Katie and Brian can focus in on it at the evening news time. None
of whom will mention where the policy grew from....90's, not 2007.

Outsource it.
Don't use federal govt. employees for this.
Hire private contractors to do it.

The American military and intelligence community has had
a hard time with linguist personnel for decades, it has declined
since the 1970's, when the agencies were purged per Congress
(the Vietnam syndrome on overdrive)....never recovered.

There are not many young or middle age people who are fluent
in the Arab languages who wish to assist the USA. Gee, I wonder
why. Not only for political reasons, but, safety too. They would
be seen as prime targets by the peace loving religions of the
Middle East.

Condi is a lesbian  ?

A celibate, closeted lesbian who hates the fact that she gets so turned on every time she thinks about licking the tender, soft lips of a juicy pussy.

I like Condi. I have a lot of respect for her intellect. I just wish she'd keep better company. She's one of my idols. She studied International Relations... just like me! And we both have fucked up teeth! She just might be my soul mate.:o She looks and talks like a snake. And I have a pet snake. We're so connected!
