I think Ivanovic was nervous going into this match bec she knew that Martina will be looking for revenge...

Nice try for ana though...

Martina is just amazing :)

Ana missed a lot but thats not unusual. Marti got nicely aggressive on the key points which is promising.

well wins like this only *enhances* a great resume such as one Martina has.

but if you ask her, I'm sure she would've wanted to have this "agressive" 'tude 2 week ago in Melbourne.

but nonetheless, she'll take it and this must even must feel like home to her now. She OWNS Tokyo that gritty Martina Hingis :)

I know, it's sweet. Wicked sweet. Now I wished I had taped it. Oh well? Maybe they'l re-air it like they always do. I mean I taped the final last year but I was not up to the task of recording another loss for Hingis. Now it feels nicer to see her get closer to 20million in career earnings and closer to title #50.

Ahh, the return of the smiling asassin. And the game is on!!

Congrats, Hingy! :hatoff:

Two of the surviving stars of the late 90's have started well this year. Serena is back with vengeance and Hingis is taking advantage of any opportunity she gets. We're now waiting for Venus to return and make it clear that these three are still every bit the stars we've known them to be.

Now Lindsay is second (holds 4 pan pacific titles), and Martina all-time record for this tourney, 5 wins, and 8 finals!

Martina has reached 8 out of 11 years the finals of Tokyo. She won 5 of those times.

If you really want to be fair, subtract 3 for the 3 years she missed so that means when Martina, in the last decade, steps foot in Tokyo she has reached the finals all the time. She loves this event. It's her Melbourne consolation prize.

...and similar to the Henin myth that she can only play on clay, Hingis actually LOVES fast courts!

Glad to see Hingis winning again 2007 could be a great year. I think people can be too hard and critisce her a lot. People should remember she has returned to No.6 in the world after missing 3 YEARS!!!!! That is a lifetime in sport, Go Martina!

And to think she won the title without dropping a set, and people were predicting she'd lose the QF.....

and it's also poetic that in the last two matches she beat players who she lost tier 1 finals to last year....must be a very sweet victory for La Hingis...

Well done Martina, enjoy the feeling......!

it's only number of singles titles, plus 36 in doubles and more to come I hope.
I want Raymond to retire and Stosur to play Martina in doubles.

Definitly Ivanovic has amazing shots but she had those shots 2 years ago... Maybe on a really good day she will play and give no chance to her opponent but that is not the right direction to go. Obviously she has to play an agressive game, because she´s slow, but that doesn´t mean she has to play full power shots every time and no use her brains...

Actually, it was 3 1/2 years, which is even more impressive. And how much better for us, to have a mature, non-whiny, non-offensive Hingis come back, all grown up and still kicking ass.

WAY TO GO MARTINA!!!! Revenge taken all week long LOL!! Everyone knows about her prowess on a slow court (clay, rebound ace), but I think that Martina is excellent on fast courts as well--- maybe better than on clay. She takes the ball so early that she is able to use the power hitters pace against them and then when she mixes in some angles, net play, and droppers.... she wins easily! Martina will be top 5 very soon! She has a real shot of being top 3 as well. Her confidence just keeps building and building.... we might get some Williams-Hingis finals in slams again!!! How awesome would that be!!

suffer well

She’s (Martina) a player I never tire watching. Yeah she’s good eye candy but her shot making and court coverage I find thrilling. With Ana Im always under the notion she just doesn’t know which way she’s headed.

With the results of the AO and now Tokyo, the calendar seems to have rolled back about four or five years. :)

Kind of funny.

Thats an awesome effort.. and especially given that so many people said that she would be unable to compete upon her return her last year.. 3 singles titles later (2 tier 1's), 1 mixed doubles grandslam and no.6 in the world later id say shes proved them wrong..

Great win. Her confidence should soar! She took Henin to 3 last year and Kim to 3 in a slam and now she beats Elena and Ana.

Waiting on a Serena/Hingis match. :-)
