Not that it matters anymore, but I heard a chair umpire at Roland Garros pronounce it more like:

EN-en ar-DEN

Eliding the "N" with the silent "H".

This is soooooo wrong!!

They pronounce as if it was Zoustiiiiine Ena arden

Feb 3rd, 2007, 07:30 PM

like a jury but without the d in front of it.

think of jury as dshury leave the d away but still pronounce the sh with your voice (not like sharapova) (more like genre) and you got it...

Its actually not supposed to be pronounced "ena". The "in" in french is a nazal vowel that doesnt exist in english.

Or Levy

It's no better than their explanation how to say Shahar Peer

SHAH-har PAY-er

But it's definitly not Pay-er. That's totally Americanizing the name, EuroSport have never said it correctly, it always sound like 'Pair'.

It's Pe - er. The E in Pe sound like the E in "the", and the er is like err, a mistake.

On the other hand, I'm still not sure whether or not I'm saying Henin correctly, even though I read the explanation 10 times...

If the little bugger's name is Justine Henin, then it is Justine Henin, not our fault if her bloody snout is blocked up,no wonder old chicken legs left the bed. Too much PC, Cammy Parn, Shahar Payer,Yooosteen Nr, Nora Titzov :fiery: Just watching the cricket, and there is someone batting out there called "Reeky Ponning"

Go to this website:

choose one of the 2 french voices and type Justine Hénin

That's how it should be pronounced.
