Hey guys, of the last decade, weve seen many great world #1's play at the peak of their game. going by how good you think they really were, if they all played each other, while all playing at the peak of their game.....

Hingis summer 1997/2000
Davenport 1999/early 2000/summer 2004
Venus summer 2000/2001
Jennifer 2001/2002
Serena summer 2002
Justine 2003/early 2004
Kim summer 2005
Amelie early 2006
Maria 2nd half 2006

Heres how i would rank them.......

1. Venus/Serena - i know most people would rank serena above Venus, but to be honest, I think the way Venus was playing at Wimbledon and US Open in 2001 was just as high as Serena's level in 2002, maybe even a little higher. She was so determined, and was almost impossible to beat.

3. Kim
4. Linzi
5. Justine
6. Jennifer
7. Hingis
8. Sharapova
9. Mauresmo

Serena summer 2002
Venus summer 2000/2001
Hingis summer 1997
Justine 2003/early 2004
Sharapova - Wimbledon 2004/US Open 2006 (I moved the timeframe, I know)
Davenport 1999/early 2000/summer 2004
Jennifer 2001/2002
Kim summer 2005
Amelie early 2006

I really would like to put Venus first, but of course she'd have to play Serena, and to this day I wonder how adjusted she is to that idea.

No sorry don´t be delusional.
Venus of 2001 had the same lame of forehand (see how Capriati exploited that shot during the early part of the 2001 Usopen semifinal, or how Hingis was winning her match in 2000 Usopen semifinal or the 2001 Australian Open with Venus spraying her forehand at will).
Serena of 2002-2003 rarely had a bad defeat and looked invincible, there was no room to breathe, very similar to her display in the Australian Open final this year. Venus NEVER dominated tennis in that way. NEVER.
And try to find a more balanced comparisson Venus summer 2001/2000 is a longer period than Serena´s summer of 2002. Serena 2002 Roland Garros- Wimbledon 2003 won 5 out of 6 grand slams and held all of them at some point. Venus from the Summer 2000-2001 won 4 out of 6 played and never won the French Open or Australian Open. You don´t need to get further to realize which domination period was better.

You mean before Venus won those matches...in the case of Capriati...rather convincingly if I remember correctly?

You spin better than Tucker Carlson.

Jennifer did not continue doing what she was doing that put her 4-1 up which was to play to Venus´s forehand, her weakness. That´s my point Serena at her best does not have a weakness, you can´t pick on any of her shots forehand or backhand because she has a better tecnique than Venus on her forehand especially.

Again Serena of 2002/2003 exploited Venus´s forehand better than anybody on the tour ever did. (On a side note Graf did this also at Wimbledon 1999 and worked wonders for her).

i dont understand how some people put justine above martina in this category. how consistent was martina in singles and doubles in those four years. justine dominated for one year.
