Well done Alicia! :clap2:

Still far off from her 2004/5 form, but at least she's taking steps to get back there. And it's great to see the Aussie crowds supporting their fave without going to the extreme.

Did anyone catch Jim Courier's comment on YJ Chan's English? He was "surprised" by how good it was. Hmm. I sense some stereotyping coming from his part.

she said in the oncourt interview she did something to her calf at 2-1 in 2nd set

hope its not serious :(

Well, we saw glimpses of a top 10 player today, but they were broken up by moments of loose play, too many backhand slices and a low first serve percentage.

I really like the way Alicia returned serve today and her forehand was very strong. IMO she needs to mix up her backhand a bit more, flatten it out and go for those topspin shots a bit more. The slice is very predictable and even Chan was trying to keep the ball to Alicia's backhand.

Overall Alicia played a decent match, but she won't be able to have any of those lapses if she wants to get back to the top.

Definetely I am sad,I am. :tears:
But on the other hand I feel happy to see Yung-Jan could hold her nerves, step it up,and played such a good match.
It's pity though she couldn't close out the second set serving at 5-3.
I can see her bright future. :)
And Alicia, welcome back! :D (Our commentator kept calling Molik "Monica"  )

Alicia :D

Happy to see her win but i thought she struggled of what i saw tonight, mis-timing shots everywhere, that backhand slice of hers was terrible tonight. She'll have to imporve drastically still.

It has to give Alicia confidence with a win like that, especially coming back from 5-3 down in the second. Good match, though streaky from Alicia. WELL DONE! :D

Yep, he says "Her English is terrific". I find it somewhat rude of him to say that for someone from Asian nation.

Chan  you were so close to win that 2set

Jan 16th, 2007, 12:50 PM
Go Alicia.

Still not as good as she was, but it'll give her confidence and one step closer to returning to top form!

Jan 16th, 2007, 12:59 PM
Too many backhand slices from Alicia and a lot of them were not getting in. It was an OK match overall.

not too bad alicia

there were glimpses of her top 10 self, although there were way too many loose errors in that second set
