He's alot better than Gilbert is and seems to know alot about tennis, of course because of he coached Andre and such but I like him as a commentator, very calm and relaxed all the time.

The first time I saw Cahill without his cap I was confused. I said "This guy looks so familiar".lol He is unbiased; that's the key to a good commentator. He does the game, the strategy, and not necessarily the player.

He's a good commentator. I love his soft Aussie accent.

He's a very sweet guy. I think he'll have a great run as a commentator. He definately does his best to put a positive spin on things.

He's smart and knows what he's talking about, which is rare for ESPN commentators. And he's not obnoxious and biased like Brad. Yay Darren!

I agree, he's a HUGE improvement over that egotist, Brad. A great addition to the cast of thousands now commentating for ESPN.

I was so waiting for someone to start a thread on this. (I think it's Cahill btw)

I heard him for the first time in the Baghdatis match and he was excellent. He obviously knows quite a lot about tennis, and the bits and pieces he shares of his experiences coaching Agassi are really interesting.

And yeah, like some others said, he seems to give a fair and balanced view of things.

Roger Rasheed was so dull and monotone :o

Darrin Cahill is like a breath of fresh air. :worship:

Brad Gilbert was like a stale public restroom. :tape:

I wonder why they fired Brad... :D Can they do the same to Patrick "I'm for Roddick" McEnroe?

I have to agree.
He sticks to tennis and trye to explain strategies or luck there of,
in an objective and professional insightful way

Cahill is great-agreed.

Did anyone see Mark Phillipousis talking to McAveny-seems hes going to commentate or do some 'job' with Channel 7 over the Open.

LOL.
Amazing isn't it?

In all seriousness, I hope they keep him. I believe he is an Ausie.

Unfortunately, he is a coach who has worked with high profile playesr so I do
not expect him to stay at ESPN for long.

its a good mix of accents in there lol

Cahill is great! The accent doesn't hurt either. :)

Gilbert's egomania was sickening. Bt he wasn't fired. He started coaching Murray.

He's coaching Andy Murray now.

I like Cahill. I didn't really mind Brad either though :tape:

Cliff is South African.
I don't like his commentating, and I think he is too deferentila to Pat Mac.

But the real reason I do not like him, is that he is a South African tennis palyer who played professional
at the time when blacks and other non-white South Africans were excluded from everything.

And I have not seen any documentation of him objecting to this.

This is one commentator everyvoy agrees on.

I wish they coukd hire him for the final.

One more thing going for him, is that he seems to show as much respect for
women tennis as he does for men tennis.

I would not want him to be paired with Tracy.
Just because taht will be uncomfortable for someone who wants to stick to tennis and not evnture private lives of players
having nothing to with tennis.

He's been commentating since Wimbledon 2006. In fact, he's commentating right now on the Nadal match with PMac.

Btw, he took off after Miami this year for some reason. He was only off for RG.

They could really talk tennis.
Johhny Mac needs somebody like him to be engaged,

Cahill is indeed Australian-from Adelaide I'm pretty sure.

And he's only around the Oz Open for a week before he's overseas as he's involved in some charity/work event with Agassi.

Too bad he can't be there for the final.

I would love for him to be pairied wiith Johnny Mac.
It would be fantastic. Unfortunately, it may never happen.

He was Star Sports' best commentator in the late 90's early 2Ks. He even made Vijay Amritraj bearable.

Agreed too about Cahill. Outstanding! Very humble and positive in his comments. An unprecedented move by ESPN.

When's Dick Enberg and Tim Ryan beginning their commentating duties? Or is Cliffy, PMAC, Pammy, Mary-Jo and Mary going to commentate every match?
