I don't know about young 16 y.o Jessica Moore that well, how she's playing, etc?

Do you think she has chance to win over The current World #4 and former US Open Champion (Svetlana Kuznetsova) ?

first match of the tournament, Sveta is still probably not over her illness, so yes Moore has a chance imo

not a chance in hell. unless Sveta retires...

Sveta retired from Hong Kong and Sydney. She has a respiratory illness.
So her health is a huge factor.

Sveta 6-1 6-4 (if she's healthy)

otherwise

Jessica 1-6 7-6 6-1

Sveta could play sick and still probably win quite easily.

What the posters above said. It'll depend on whether Sveta has recovered.

Sveta could play blindfolded and win, albeit in 3 sets :p

i would say. it'd be tough for Moore to win this one.

whether or not Svetlana is injured or ill, it should be straightforward if she plays safe and normal tennis.

they really are quite far apart in terms of "leagues" if you know what i mean.

but of course, anything can happen, that makes tennis fun! :)

Jess has every chance of winning. Kuznetsova has a respiratory illness. It's going to be at least 31 degrees celcius tomorrow. Playing on Vodafone Arena, it will be a lot warmer than that. There is lots of smoke around Melbourne - not good if u have a respiratory illness. Playing in front of a supportive home crowd will boost Jess, and she has been playing very well over the past few months.

Jess to win in 3!

GO JESS!

I don't see how Moore could win, even if Sveta is sick.

I mean looking at her junior record, nothing is that impressive.

Sveta should win quite easily.

If she can't beat the top dogs in juniors, how can she beat the top dogs in the WTA? ;)

You are setting yourself up for disappointment. :tape:

Last year Jess Moore beat Nikola Hofmanova (JNR NO.11), 6-3, 6-0, Sacha Jones (JNR NO.12), 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 and Kristina Kukova (JNR NO.22) 6-1, 6-4. She didn't play any of the top 5 juniors, but beat some of the older aussies, Lauren Breadmore, Christina Wheeler and Emily Hewson in the AO WC PLayoff at the end of '06 before losing to molik 4-6, 4-6

yeah all and good, it just depends on whether she'll be able to transition on the big stage.

There are always exceptions. :tape:

But you are acting like Jess is a top five player herself. :help:

im going for jess even though i like sveta and of course she CAN win but it would be a major upset beating the third seed and a former grand slam champ... jess was unlucky to draw a top 5 player first round and the odds of her winning are rightly stacked against her... but of course neve underestimate anywone she COULD win she has nothing to lose after all

as with any first GS, Jessica will be very nervous, and sometimes that crowd support can really go against you by making you even more nervous. It is hard to rule out any chance of winning for any body. Despite Svetlana's illness, she still has the GS experience to carry her through. As long as Sveta plays a reasonable game and capitalize on Jessica's nerves, I don't see much problem for Sveta in 1st rd.

Don't think so. You saw what Kuznetsova made with Lauren Albanese....

moore had a decent game against molik in the WC playoff, so she won't get utterly hammered. i think maybe 6-2, 6-3

I think Swietłana will win this one, but will struggle in the 2nd round vs Iroda, given she has some health issues.

It's a good sign for Sveta's health that she's playing doubles with Hingis.
Hingis wouldn't do that if Sveta was still sick.
