Jelena, please play !!!

WhatTheDeuce

That would be interesting to see Dokic go up against a very capable field like that. Perhaps playing that level player will lift her own level.

I really hope she plays Capriolo the week before though. Please do that Jelena, playing a 75K with this type of a field with no warmup at all might be trouble.

She may play better against these better players rather than the unknowns she was playing against... They may bring out the best from her... and she wont be too embarassed if she loses so she wont think about it as much :rocker: GOOO JELENA!!! :hearts:

I'd be surprised if she does. But I'd be delighted if she does play. If she is aiming for Wimbledon, this is as good a test as any for her.

Well I'm trying very hard not to be to optimistic, but WC means she had to put more effort than just filling sign up forms for regular ITF tourney. Which means we have tad bigger chance to see her on court. :)

Yeah well thinking about it more I guess I wouldnt be at all surprised if she didnt play. :o I mean, this is Jelena Dokic. But the fact that she requested a WC for it is only encouraging.

Jelena Dokic receives wild card for main draw!

So far the organizers have only awarded one of the four wild cards for the main draw, but it’s a big one. "The 24-year-old Jelena Dokic will play in Val Gardena," says Tournament Director Wolfgang Wanker proudly.

Jelena Dokic is an illustrious name on the tennis circuit. In 2002, after reaching the last sixteen in Wimbledon and the quarterfinals in Paris, she was already in the fourth position of the world rankings. In 2000 she sensationally reached the semifinals in Wimbledon. Wins over Kim Clijsters, Amelie Mauresmo, Jennifer Capriati and Conchita Martinez appear on her list of successes before she dropped to rank 124 in 2004 due to a long-lasting elbow injury. In 2005 she was only able to play six tournaments and fell back to rank 351. Since 2006 she is once again playing for Australia and in the WTA computer she is now only ranked at 596 in the world. Will she be able to achieve another success here in Val Gardena? “Regarding the remaining wild cards, we are still negotiating with a couple of famous top 100 names, but I wouldn’t like to give away too much just yet,” says Wanker hopefully.

Yeah, I don't think it would be motivation or confidence either otherwise she wouldn't have accepted it in the first place.

I really hope she hasn't withdrawn, but tourney officials were very quick to replace her name, so I'm pretty sure she must have withdrawn.

On Wednesday Jelena Dokic (Australia) withdrew from the tournament in Ortisei and, therefore, returned the wild card she had received a few weeks ago. The former number 4 in the world injured her wrist in a training session three days ago. On Wednesday she tried to take up training again, but she was forced to stop. The doctor ordered her ten days break and she cannot compete in Val Gardena.
