the old team will hurt Zi Yan & Ting Li's career since they have to stick with their partners, going to a tournament where they aren't even meet the qualifying cut off :o i feel so bad for them.

Zheng & Sun are in top 100 right now, they should pick the same tournament to play all season although Sun might get to play qualie sometimes. actually the better choice must be Na Li & Jie Zheng but it seems Na isn't into doubles that much

any thoughts?

I don't think Zheng is a long-term doubles player. Once she really breaks through in singles (top-20-style), I think she will largely leave the doubles behind. She's far too young (and too talented) to commit to simply be a top doubles player.

well, she has to play doubles until she wins gold medal @ Beijing. and if she does, i don't see CTA allow her to quit doubles anyway

oh wait, Jie Zheng is CTA darling, she sure can do whatever she wants

Well, Zi made like 400000$ last year just by playing doubles, which is much more than what she would have made playing singles, even if she had gotten into the top 75, say. I think that for Zi, becoming a doubles specialist may not be totally a bad idea.

I'd like to see Tiantian and Jie play together! but Jie and Yi are a team and it took both of them to win all those titles!

Well, if Yan Zi would have not any potencial, that would be a good idea, yep. But Zi has A LOT of tennis. She showed it at Guangzhou for example in 2005 winning the title. Last year she defeated Dechy in Australia (ok, she was not at her best but anyway...) and was very close to the victory against Schiavone also last year. Last week she defeated Vaidisova, and lost against Sharapova 7-5 6-3.

She is an amazing doubles player, of course. And I really like the team Zi/Jie. I just love it I would say. But Zi cant play a lot of tournaments in singles because of the doubles. And this makes me feel mad  and sad

Im not as worry because she is really young. So she has time. I would like she and Jie to play at GS and Tier I. Then she can play singles and doubles there. But other weeks (firstly Tier IV, Tier III) she would have to skip the doubles to play singles. I hope this happens after Olympics. Then, when she gets ranking into top 75 at least, she would be able to play doubles and singles at all tournaments.

Im sure Zi will go far, not only in doubles, also in singles ;) :bounce:

Yeah it has been hurting Zi's career for the last 3 years or so. But they have been very successful so I dont see the breaking up anytime soon.
I dont think Zi should just be a doubles specialist, as said above, she has a lot of singles potential, and would have had a better career by now had she not concentrated on doubles so much.

i am sorry if this is something everyone knows but why did Ting Li and Tian Tian Sun stop playing doubles together ?

I think there is real chemistry between those two - Zheng and Yan - and would not like to see them broken up. It's a true joy to watch them play together!

Why do you suggest Sun anyway? She is not near Zheng's level in singles, so would they be at the same events anyway?

Peng is closer to Zheng in terms of what they can qualify for. And Peng should be playing dubs (if as you say Na will not).

Recommendations (for discussion):

1. CTA to focus on improving Yan's singles - invest in a special coach for her, and make her development a priority. She deserves it, with her success in dubs, and her improvement will help more than Yan.

Doing this will help the situation in 2008, and the following years.

2. For 2007 and into next year, set up "second" dubs teams, for use when they play tournaments they can qualify for in singles. Why not Zheng-Peng, and Yan-Sun?

(I'm not very clear where Ting Li fits into the picture.)

yan zi will play well in Aus Open and back into top 100, no worries.

jie zheng will stick with yan zi to play doubles as CTA wants them to be doubles world no.1. they will play many tier 1 and 2 tournaments even yan zi will not be able to play Q draw :o

finger-crossed for yan zi's aus open run.

I heard they had a falling out after winning the Olympics, others say Ting is more focussed on her marriage, and good for her. I'm not too sure though  :wavey:

Peng should focus on her singles. she can do anything as Na Li did. Jie Zheng will not, that's why she should keep the doubles on :p
