OH... I so picked this... er, not. When was the last time Pratt beat someone in the top ten? The last good match I saw Pratt play was the 4th round at the AO againt JHH some time ago.

With this win, she might wanna play for ANOTHER year... god help us if she does... she can stick to doubles though; Im cool with that.

I used to dislike Pratty.... but i have softened my approach now, she is a little workhorse that runs down balls, but now i like her, she is a real aussie fighter... and this is an amazing win for her.
In theory its easy to overpower pratt or to manipulate her weak shots like martina did last week. BUT.... make errors and pratt will eat u alive, Pratty runs down balls like a mouse and i personally, have never seen her tired during a match in all my life.

Hingis def Pratt 6-1 6-0
Safina def Hingis
Now Pratt def Safina..?????

piercerocks
Jan 8th, 2007, 11:51 AM
i totally respect pratt
its a big win for her. she deserves to celebrate

but i think its all due to dinara's exhaustion, and i would rather her save her energy for AO and make a run there rather than win sydney and come to AO completely fatigued.

congrats to pratt!

hopefully dinara will do good at AO! : )

Would appreciate a little report!

Safina was in good form but perhaps was tired from last week?

Regardless, I think Pratt figured she had nothing to lose and played better given that she was at home. Great week for her, given that she also upset the top seeds in doubles playing with Loit.

This is a shocking win for Nicole Pratt! Isn't she in her 30s and she's knocking off a young up and coming player like Safina? This is very surprising but it goes to show Safina isn't quite ready for Prime Time yet.

if safina was tired
why didn't she withdraw from the tournament.
i'd respect her more if she did that than just tanking a match to an old bag like pratt
You get fined for withdrawing. This is just a Tier II round 1 match. You show up, play so-so, and then you can rest for a few days.
At the last major, Dinara reached a QF and the doubles final, and made $250,000 in 2 weeks.. Now she can rest up for the AO.
