Lena still has the fight :D no doubt about that, but as usual her serve was poor with 15 DF's even though it looked alot better in HK, not as bad as Ai's 17 DF's :o, i think she took as while to adjust to the conditions as i said she probably would and to the heat, i didint think the 1st 2 sets would be as close but a win is a win :), i just hope she takes it to the next level next round, the draw isint as bad as it could be for her. Keep fighting lena  and good luck against Li

Way to give credit to Ai:rolleyes: , SHE"S THE REASON IT WAS TOUGH. And should have been hers had she closed it out at 5-3.

Nice match Ai, too bad it turned out the way it did. But a successful week with three solid qualie wins and this one. Now win the doubles!

(Dementieva will lose to Li)

What the hell, this was hardly the 1st time lena has ever been taken to 3 sets in an early round, she always makes it 10 times harder for herself, and btw you havent given lena any credit and you were not giving her any in the score thread so pot calling the kettle black much :o

At least she gives you a heart attack but then wins unlike Jelena Dokic who gives you a heart attack and then loses :sobbing:

I dont think lena is ever gonna stop giving her fans heart attacks  but thats why i love her

Well that was a battle at first ,before Lena got the job done in no uncertain terms.

And yes Pctennis ,you irratating little sod ,I AM going to give credit to Ai ,shes a great little player and was always going to give Lena trouble ,especially in her first match ,I fully expected it to be 3 sets and had Ai won ,that wouldnt have been a shock either , of all the qualifers for Lena to get ,she got the toughest. You need to give Lena some credit ,she often fights back to win ,never mind who she plays ,she fought back to beat Justine after being 2-5 down and a set down ,she does it many many times ,it AInt just luck you know!

Well anyways ,a win is a win ,Lenas first down under in 2 years.
Ai ,you did really well ,the match could well have been yours ,but I am afraid there was a 6 foot blonde goddess who had other ideas ,and once she was firing on all cylinders ,well , the outcome was therefore sealed ,nothing was ever gonna change that ,like the sun rising everymorning ,YOU HAVE BEEN DEMENTINATED!

I had a heart attack watching this match.

I've never seen two players try and lose a match like this. The baseline play was good, but the serving was shocking. The number of DF's (15 for Elena, 17 for Ai) was bad enough, but the timing of them hurt most.

But at least Elena broke through in the third and screamed some sweet winners. Some hope. And of course, my record in attending Elena matches holds (for those of the Elena fan thread)

Oh Ai... I wouldn't be like this had you not led 7-6 5-3 :sobbing: But Elena's one tough little russian! Always up for a three-set fight, LOL.
This isn't a bad result though! I'd rather this than a 6-2 6-2 result!! You fought against a tough player and that's great ;) if you can still compete with elena, you still got it Ai!
and for the record, I now hope Elena makes the final
Now get some rest and kick some butt with Daniela, and then get ready for Melbourne Ai  This has been a good tournament for you!

Well Ai did well considering her serving. 17 double faults! Ai's working herself into form... hopefully that serving gets better soon.

Ai seems to give Lena a lot of trouble--haven't their last few matches gone three sets? I would imagine they know each other's game pretty well since they were doubles partners for nearly a year.

Also, I wouldn't make any predictions of how Lena will perform against Li based on how she did against Ai. Lena's so inconsistent.

Things always balance themselves out in the end. FC Porto, playing at home no less, is ignominiously bumped off the Cup by a side from Division 2-B? No worries: Lena D., remembering that I had put vCash on her, stages one of her miraculous escapes to even things out.

how kind is dementieva? i mean she gifts sugiyama with almost 4 games worth of double faults.

Sugiyama gifted her the exact same back. All is fair.

Ai had more DFs than Lena, and to top it off, she was up 7-6, 5-3. If we're going to talk about "gifts", then Sugiyama was the one who handed the match on a silver platter.

But that's beside the point. Lena won fair and square and it's credit to her for fighting back tough.
