Vera you stupid thing!!! So many chances to get back on track in second set!!!

You won't get ever back into top ten...this was just sad :sobbing:

sam completely outplayed vera t'day with her heavy groundies, big serve & awesome net play since i watched the match of course :D the way i'm seeing sam playing at the moment i think she is ready to take that next step of breaking into the Top 20 (i know it's just one match but it's still good to stay positive). sam was the more agressive player & vera just had no answers :yeah: yay sammy :woohoo: :yippee:

Vera was icing both wrists after that long final in NZ.
This is no big deal for her. Stosur has to play Hingis or Jankovic.

Good win Sammy! I think 86% of Stosurs first serve points won says it all really. Too bad she faces Jankovic/Hingis.

Stosur played very well :yeah:

Well done to Stosur, I see the Aussies are building Sammy up to be a world beater but I wouldn't use that effort by Bepa as a measuring stick for Sammy,She won and played well (as she does at home, and is starting to away) but terrible effort by Bepa, the same as last year here, just doesn't seem to back up from Auckland. I would almost say I could go and randomly pick a sheep out of the nearest mob, give it a racquet and it would have done better than Bepa :fiery:

Sam was just twice as aggressive the whole match. Does anyone know what Vera said after the match?

Sammy has a chance against the Hingis-Jankovic winner. She's playing 2 matches against players who made the finals last week, played long tiring finals, and then had to rush to Sydney and play again.
It's a good situation for her.
Good for Pratt also. Dinara has to be exhausted.

Last year Vera won $250,000 at the USO.
This is the next major. Having a few days without singles could be good.
Next week is much more important.

I don't think she was planning on such a tough week in NZ.
She was icing both of her wrists during the post final press conference.

Zvonareva didn't play bad at all, so I don't know what you are saying.

Well done Sam! ;)

Poor Vera... this must be so upsetting after her loss to Jankovic. She's such a phenomenal player (man is she good sometimes), but these losses must be bogging her down.

Congrats to Stosur! Future Wimbledon Queen in the making...?

Zvonareva must be tired from Auckland. Tho Stosur always seams to play well here!

Sam played a great match :yeah:

Bepa just wasn't aggressive enough

Sam won 20 points at the net vs just 2 for Bepa :o

Had Bepa kept the ball deeper, things would have been different :p

its funny vera kept whining after she lost the match

She was so sh*tty!!!!! omg!! She kept talking angrily to herself and everytime a ball was called out she would stand there and stare at it and point at it. She didn't do any autographs at the end. She was NOT happy.

Sam played a super match. A very nice all round game, heavy baseline play, good variety and efficient net play. Vera kept trying to lob her for some reason.

Funnily enough, the only aspect of her game that wasn't on was her serve. In fact, like 10 minutes after the match, my friends and I decided to see who was on the practice courts, and there was Sam, just after she'd won, hitting serves for half an hour.

So you can't say she doesn't work hard

thats awsome news, it shows her determination, and mind set on singles an giving an upset win against janko would be awsome =) anyone take photos?

sam is now rankd 27 an is more then likely to be seeded 25 at ao due to henin an davenport pulling out, moving her up two spots =)

I tried to take some photos of the match, but I was too far away.

I got a closer photo when she was practising after, but I'm in it, so I can't really post it here. But I'll try to get some more during the week

Same, the zoom on my camera isn't very good, so they're kind of a bit far away. I was relatively close (sec 219) but yeah, they're not that good.

Sam :yeah:Vera wasn't going to withdraw unless she had a serious injury.
This happens all the time. Players have a long hard week, travel, and they aren't in a situation where they play well.
Same thing happened with Dinara.

no i think jelena will be okay. she's a competitor so it's not like she's gonna hand it to sam on a silver platter that easily & sam knows this.
