I really want it to be Safina and she very well could do it but Hingis is tough and will play strong so i'm divided but am prolly squeaking out Hingis in 2 tough sets

Safina! Hingis hasn't had that long a matchplay than safina!

But, safina could be a bit tired from the 2 hour + match she just won!

Hingis hasn't played against a competitor yet, so she is fresh as a daisy. Dinara on the otherhand has played good talent and has to be tired.

Hope Dinara wins.

Every tennis match you play you have a competitor. She had just as many as Safina.

that fact that hingis has had to expend very little effort so far will be both in her favour and agsinst her. she will be fresher, but hasnt had a real challenge and safina inst going to be a pushover like all the rest of hingis's opponents were. however, safina will possible be a bit tired after her long match with peer

I voted Hingis in 3, but I am hoping that Dina pulls out the win. It just seems like with the Doubles, Singles, Fatigue thing, her type of playing style v. Hingis' playing style, that the scoreline will be 6-2, 6-3 Hingis.

Well, I'd love to see Safina winning - you know, the revenge for Rome :p but actually I can hardly see that coming.
But I haven't see Safina in action for a while, maybe she improved enough. Keepin' my fingers crossed anyway!

Hehehe. I'm a die hard Hingis fan...but 0,3 seems a bit small when betting. Safina must have played well this tournament...and I have not actually seen either of them play after YEC. Scoreboard does not even show UE-winners-serve speed.

Could go either way. Trying to be objective, Hingis looks to be slightly favourite.

Tina should win though.

I think how far they go in Sydney and Melbourne will tell more than this match does.
This match will be about how on Dinara is.
Unless she is hitting like the second half of the Peer match, she'll lose.

Both of them have to show they can beat the big guns at a major this year.

dinara in two.
hingis is too sketchy.

Based on current form yes Safina more than likely in three if not two rather contested sets. Hingis' form has declined and her serve is very patchy. If she finds her form and rhythm maybe her experience and the prior head to head might be a factor.

I hope Hingis wins but I am not so sure anymore especially after the semis. Safina has the power to overpower Hingis so who knows. Should at least be an interesting match.

Hingis in two easy sets- 6-2;6-3

This is very very unlikely unless Hingis comes out firing and Safina is much too tired after her doubles match. She already must be a bit fatigued from her singles semis.

Martina has said she's been starting slowly this tournament.

SO I say Hingis, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Did you see the Rome match?...It really wasn't even close.

I just don't think Dinara has much to hurt Martina. Yes she hits hard, but not hard enough to hit through Hingis on a consistent basis and she doesn't move well enough either! Not to mention, as others have stated, she must be pretty tired...terrible scheduling IMO, sorry Dina!

Unless she plays close to 100% the entire match, or Martina plays terribly...Martina in 2 sets, 1 close set and 1 blowout

BTW, congrats for getting back into the top 10 Dina!!!! :wavey:

I voted Hingis, she's just the better player. Even if she has a bad day and Safina has a great day, Martina will be hard to stop by Safina. So Martina will walk away victorious.

jamesuk
Jan 6th, 2007, 12:26 AM
I think if it does get close I would favour Martina, I think mentally she will be boosted by her performance at the YEC, even though she didnt make the semis. She was playing with the big girls there and led Henin by a break in the final set, and was a milimeter away from stunning mauresmo. I think she will have a more recent memory of big match situations than Safina, so maybe that will help her.

In any case it is great she has already improved her ranking , in so far as she will be gaining points this week thanks to doing better than this time last year

Jan 6th, 2007, 12:48 AM
Hingis should win this easy.. i too think it will be one close set , one blow out.. but i think that this is safina's chance to step up and show what she can do.. But ppl need to remember hingis is used to playing in Aus, playing on rebound ace and playing in the summer heat.. so i think her experience will win out..
