When will Vaidisova reach her first final at Tier II or above?

Though Nicole reached Roland Garros semis and finished the year in Top-10 she still hasn't made it to the final of Tier I or Tier II during her fairly short career. When will she break through? Your thoughts?

She has plenty of time. When Sharapova played Wimbledon in 2004, she had never reached a semi besides Tier III's.

Australian Open
Indian Wells
Miami
Charleston

She reached 7 SF this year but went 1-6. Losing to Schiavone, Kuznetsova, Clijsters twice, and Petrova twice. :(

That's a tough schedule she's got.

It's a very spare schedule. There's like two months between Australia and California.

Edit: But I'm sure she'll get into more things between them. It's tough, but she's good.

She needs the draw to open up at some of those events. She won't beat Justine, Maria, Petrova on most days. Best chance for her is at Indian Wells where the draws tend to open up, and she can do some damage on the American hard.

I think she will make the semis before this years French Open.

I'd say she'll reach a Tier II or higher final before RG 2007, if not then at least before the YEC 2007 to be certain. Nicole's still gotta lot to prove in 2007 & she will deliver.

seriously i don't see her reaches the final in the 5 tournaments above even i desparately want to. those tournament are tough. hopefully Nicole changes her mind about playing some more after Melbourne especially on hard court outdoor at the Middle East which fits her game the best.

But if she decided to have a tough shedule mean she has high expectation.She knows her capacities more than anybody.:)

IIRC Nicole has a total of only 3 wins over top ten players on her whole career. She's not consistent enough to fight through a crowded draw at a big tournament yet - all the more considering her 2006 late season pattern of epic victory-blowout loss, with an additional couple of horrid first round losses.

So it would depend on entering enough tournaments to increase her chances of getting a depleted field, and in the end I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't reach a single final this season.

But all of this is worst case scenario, and assumes that she won't improve all that much from 2006.

out of 22 active players who've been ranked in Top-10 only two (Nicole and Paola Suarez) managed to do it without reaching a single final of Tier II or higher tournament.

A mere statistical oddity in Suarez' case, but Nicole breaking into the top 10 this way is a clear sign of the hand of SATAN.

Surely winning five matches in a row at a grand slam is enough to equate with a tier II final ?

I know not in terms of points but maybe in terms of pressure.

I'm not wondering when she'll get to a high tier final as much as when she'll win one.

Looking at that schedule though it would have to be a weakened field for it to happen before the French open IMHO.

Played 3 tournaments so far this year - reaching SF in 2 of them and 0-2 in those matches. :(

She blew such a big opportunity at Charleston though to make a Tier I final. :o And I doubt it's going to happen in Moscow either. She should commit to Linz if she isn't playing already, I'm not sure how strong the field is there but it's usually very weak.

I agree completely! Linz is the perfect draw for her to play her way into the final, and potentially win the title. She has the talent, she just needs to put it all together.

Should happen next season, although winning a Tier II event or higher (not just reaching the final) is something Vaidisova should have accomplished already. And the injuries are not an excuse. Everyone suffers injuries on a regular basis in professional tennis these days.

Not winning a big event at this point in her career has more to do with Vaidisova's head. But the mental side of her game is improving and she consistently gives the top players very tough matches, so a breakthrough is not too far on the horizon.
