Here are their picks (according to Steve Tignor).... What do you think??

Amelie Mauresmo
She’ll return to the scene of her breakthrough looking for that “Grand Slam moment.” The same person will take it from her.
Prediction: Runner-up

Justine Henin-Hardenne
The little Belgian wears down during Slams, but she’ll fight to make fans forget her retirement in the 2006 final.
Prediction: Winner

Maria Sharapova
She proved she’s a Slam threat again in New York, but she won’t beat Mauresmo and Henin-Hardenne back to back.
Prediction: Semifinals

Kim Clijsters
Once the consummate athlete of the WTA, Clijsters is now a walking injury. Still, she loves the high bounces Down Under.
Prediction: Quarterfinals

Svetlana Kuznetsova
The most unpredictable of the top women, the flaky, athletic, and powerful Russian can beat or lose to anyone.
Prediction: Quarterfinals

Elena Dementieva
She seemed destined to use her cannon-like strokes to win a major. But a little thing called a serve keeps getting in the way.
Prediction: Quarterfinals

Nadia Petrova
Last year she broke throuhgh with five titles and a Top 5 ranking. If she can keep her fierce temper in check, a Slam could be next.
Prediction: Semifinals

Martina Hingis
Year 2 of the comeback begins where she’s a three-time champ. Her wily game still works well on the slow courts—up to a point.
Prediction: Quarterfinals

i thibk it is hard to predict a winner, cos it going to be a very open tournament, but those predictions seem reasonable and i would be inclined to agree with them.
idk whether anyone has read what they predicted for the mens draw, but they say nadal is going to win and that is complete bullshit

I enjoy Petrova very much. The Devil's right, she does lack a certain charisma, but she plays out of her mind almost every time I see her, so I like her.

It's a predictable (LOLZZZZ) set of quarterfinalists on up, but from the semifinalists to the finalists, it's mostly obvious who's going to be there. Sharapova, J2H, and Mauresmo have basically booked their spots there unless J2H is sick or Mauresmo's nerves fail her again, which I'm hoping she proves to everyone again is wrong. Jeez, aren't two Slams in one year enough to show she can win majors? So it just makes me wonder who the other semifinalist will be. It'll likely be Hingis or Petrova. Maybe Vaidisova or Jankovic if they have a good draw.

Chakvetadze in on her way there, she has made a tremendous improvement after winning her first title a couple of months ago. She won Moscow defeating three top ten players along the way. She has also had many other top 10 victories while Nicole's only two top 10 victories came against Mauresmo.

No she did not. She made one quarterfinal at a slam, won 5 big titles, and made the YEC where she defeated the #1 player easily! I bet Nicole would take all that over a slam semi any day. :p

Nadia was injured for almost three straight Slams. The comparisons between their Slam performances can't be made. And it's embarrassing she lost to Li Na AND Jankovic after a set lead on both of them so early at Wimbledon and the US Open, especially after Nicole came back from a 1-5 defecit in the first set. Nicole consistently did average at the biggest events in the year, though running into Clijsters twice in the summer probably didn't help.

Besides, Nicole is just 17. I'd like to see any 17-year-old here, including me, do a damn thing she did on the tour.

Oh Derek get over yourself. :p

First of all, age is the biggest piece of crap and most overrated excuse EVER! Its only a number and its not like they are so far apart to begin with. Anna has developed into a late bloomer. You always bring up this age thing, but hey look at Martina Navratilova, she's like 60 and could probably beat 900 of the top ranked women in the world. Personally I think Anna will have a longer career then Nicole, because her body type can cope with tennis' ordeals while Nicole's body is more prone to injury etc. Either way I think they will both have successful careers. As to who will be better, you don't know, you can speculate, but I'll think you're wrong :p
