I think Mary is #1 candidate. I do honestly hope she comes back from that horrible injury, but it is going to be very tough to make it all the way back, so she will probably retire after the US Open.

Here is who has been mentioned so far

Group 1 - Almost certain:

Kim, Mary, Elena L., Anna Smashnova

Group 2 - Possible:

Ai, Paola, Pratt, Chanda, Amy

Group 3 - Big surprise:

Nastya, Schaul, Virginia

Kim-she's said so herself
Likhovtseva-she's gettin on up there in 'tennis age' wouldn't surprise me...
Sugiyama-results have gone done in the past couple of years, still a great player, but running out of time I think...
Myskina-she seems fed up with tennis, I think she's said if her play doesn't get back to a top level that she would leave...

Others I could see retiring: Pratt, Smashnova, Schaul, etc.

I think Mary will give it a big try to come back in '08 for the Olympics...hopefully

Myskina won't retire, she said she would this year if her results didn't improve but she didn't retire, and she said when she arrived in Auckland that she was training hard so obviously there is a desire to play tennis.

A lot of the popular tennis players are finding interest in other things...now..Davenport and Clijsters are about to start a new chapter in their life by starting a family. Pierce, and Rubin are just about finished...they've been in the game for a while now. Seles and Capriati might was well go ahead and announce their retirement because they've just been prolonging their return for two years now because of injuries...when The Williams Sisters are heavily involved in other things and barely a1/4 of the tennis they use to play...when they retire...I'm kinda expecting the same results in WTA tennis as Figure Skating when Michelle Kwan stopped skating...only the true faithful fans of lifeless players such as Henin and Mauresmo will sit around and watch paint dry while they sit and play tennis.

:haha: You're talking about the two most verstile, talented players in the game...yeah, I think the Juju and Momo fans will just have to suffer through those grand slam finals again this year... :tape:

Brenda Schultz-McCarthy will re-retire in 2007. She wants to play Wimby one more time and that's it.

is this a done deal....i knew she wanted one more chance at wimbledon but i wasnt sure she would just do 2007 and be done.

It's a done deal - for now ;) Her only real goal is playing Wimby, after that everything is whipped cream on the cake. Still, if her body holds up and she manages to attain a top-75 ranking or something higher, I wouldn't be surprised to see her add just a few more months in the 2008 season. Anyhoot, here's an article/interview to convince you and I ;)

Nastya won't retire at the end of 2007!
After winning St Anton exhibition she said she will definitely come back next year. So it means she plans to play in 2008 too

Maybe 2009 or 2010!

Kim, Jennifer, Mary, Anna Smashnova, Pratt, Sugiyama (if her results don't improve too much), and perhaps Venus. That's just my opinion.

Filip Dewulf said he thinks official retirements statements from Seles and Capriati will come, and it is not unlikely both Williams sisters are t retire because lack of interest aswell... He's a journalist now and acts like he knows what he's talking about... We'll see, I guess he's right about Jennifer and Monica though...

I think Anna should for once and for all state what her intentions are, it's not fair to her fans. I've finally become resigned to the fact she'll never play profesionally again:sad: I just wish she'd tell us so we can stop hoping and start reflecting.

I don't think Ai will retire *knocks on wood*
She said that she's been enjoying her matches more as she continues to play - if she has decent results, I think she'll continue playing as long as possible barring injury. She said she's playing the kind of tennis she wants to be playing.

Claudine Schaul will NOT retire in 2007. She is injured and will be back for sure in June 2007!!! I know it because I read it in a (Luxembourgish) newspaper; she can't await to be back on court and she is on the way recovering, so skip her off the list.:o

I doubt Anastasia Myskina will retire in 2007 too. Everybody was saying that she will retire at the end of 2006 but she is still there and I could see her playing at the next Olympic Games. Dead people are living longer. :)

filip Dewulf, a tennis expert from Belgium said that Monica Seles isn't retired officially so we can expect that Monica will retire officailly in 2007. He even said that there's a small chance that Venus and/or Serena will retire.

I don't agree with him. Venus and Serena will stay at least 2 years on court!
