I have a feeling Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Francesca Schiavone will fall in the 1st round. I also have a feeling Patty Schnyder, Shahar Peer, Anastasia Myskina and Anna Chakvetadze will fall in the 2nd round.

Which top 20 players do you think will fall in either the 1st or 2nd round at Australian Open 2007?

ALG will unless she finally gets her shit together which I hope she does.

I also think Nastya and Lena D. are prone for early exits. Peer will be an early exit. Depending on her draw Hingis could be gone quickly. I'm not sold on Safina either.

Depends, there are a couple of floaters in the draw who wnt be seeded and if they draw someone from around 5-32 seeds then they could pull the upset, people im thinking of as floaters include Rezai, Sprem, Azarenka, Venus, Serena (If they play of course), Pironkova, Mirza, Radwanska, King

The players who could be upset even without playing one of those include ALG, Schiavone, Myskina maybe Schnyder possibly lenaD but i hope not :scared: i cant see her losing early again in Aus though

Judging by their 2006 form Groenefeld and Myskina are clear "options". Dementieva and Safina could lose early too (just look at their Australian Open records).

I expect Chakvetadze and ALG to lose before the third round. Obviously, it all depends on the draw, we have time to change our mind.

I think we'll see Groenefeld, Bartoli, and Schiavone fall early. I think the top 8 will all survive until the round of 16, but that is asking a lot from Dementieva.
Vaidisova, Jankovic, Chakvetadze, and Ivanovic I feel are the only players who can legitimately challenge the top 8 right now. Of course, there is the chance for a Petrova at RG-esque shock, but barring that, I think the seeds should hold pretty well.

Hmmmmm, so many people who don't give ALG a snowball's chance in Australia, and I'm one of 'm :tape: Also not sure about Chakvetadze.

You can't compare Groenefeld's chances to Chakvetadze. Chakvetadze ended 06 with two titles, Groenefeld has been horrific since RG.

Ah, but I'm not making any kind of comparison. I'm fully aware of what Groenefeld did during the last months of this year, but that doesn't guarantee anything as far as I'm concerned. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I want anyone to lose, I just feel like Chakvetadze is not a lock for the second round. And most of the people here know I probably have a 90%+ chance of being proven wrong

Ummmmmmm let's wait for a draw.

I think Groenefeld would beat Madison Brengle, don't you? Whereas Henin or Sharapova could draw Serena Williams and you never know.

Dec 21st, 2006, 08:54 PM
Hey... NEVER underestimate the Brengle  But agreed: bring on the draw and let's talk again then!

Groenefeld definitley will lose in the earlier rounds, Dementieva will struggle - she always looks uncomfortable out there in the heat and always seems to find it hard to find form in Australia ... and as for Myskina, she won the exhbition in St. Anton and is hopefully practising and training hard, so i do hope that she makes at least the 3rd round!

Slampova

Hopefully Kirilenko doesn't draw someone like Serena here, that would be all she needs :( I hope the warm ups she's playing before the AO get her back on track as I really don't wanna see her fall early here.
I can't see Petrova losing early, I mean she's been out there already the past week or more getting used to the surface, etc...

People, people!

We all know Elena Dementieva will win the 2007 Australian Open as such:
R1 - d. #312 Mandy Minella 1-6 7-6 (13) 15-13
R2 - d. #113 Meng Yuan 7-6 (3) 0-6 10-8
R3 - d. #9 Patty Schnyder 6-0 6-0
R4 - d. #192 Mariana Diaz-Olivia 6-1 6-7 (29) 9-7 (coming back from 5-0 down in the third)
QF - d. (Q) Billie Jean King 0-6 0-5 ret.
SF - d. (Q) Anna Kournikova 3-2 ret.
CF - d. #3 Amelie Mauresmo 6-2 1-0 ret. (tummy pains)

So I think it's quite clear she will NOT be leaving in the early rounds.
