I think Serena, or possibly Venus/Mary.

Capriati won't return and Dokic won't do anything noteworthy next year

Serena, I can see her being a real threat by the time we get to Wimbledon/US Open. I can see her winning a Grand Slam next year.

I don't see how Mirza could be the comeback player, what's she coming back from  She's doing fine on the rankings and tour at the moment  And the dollar signs ($) are a little annoying.

And I would love to see both Alicia & Jelena do well next year. I know it's not looking very likely that Jelena will do any better next year but I can always hope. Serena & Venus better get back to the top in tennis as well.

Yeah as much as I'm not really a Serena or Venus fan I must admit it is a little boring without them at the top.

I hope Alicia returns to her best soon to :)

Serena Williams she doesnt have many points to defend either so i can really see her becoming a threat again. i hope she starts with victory at hobart, sania mirza might also make a comeback, i was watching her 3rd round or 4th round( cant remeber) and the US open 2005. WOW she really belts that forehand

If Serena hasn't gotten in shape in over a year what makes you think she will get in shape in less than a month for January? As much as I would like to see Serena start playing like she can she honestly hasn't done shit on the tennis court in almost two years, not even a QF in a GS. I don't see the point in defending their tennis when they hardly show up for tournaments anymore and when they finally do come, they donít do what they are capable of doing:sad: it pains me to say all of this but it's true.

Molik, Capriati, and Rubin are all players I want to see do well next year. But I think Molik is going to make the most of it. She seems SO determined, I just don't picture her faltering. Watch out.

see, that's the thing, it's not about January, it's about the WHOLE YEAR. And the ONLY reason that she's missed tournaments is because of injuries. So, if she can manage to stay healthy for the year, I don't see why she wouldn't be able get back to the top. And, she's only played 4 majors since her AO win (which hasn't exactly been 2 years yet ;)) and she's gotten to two 3rd rounds and two 4th rounds. That's not exactly terrible for someone who, since getting injured in AI 2005, has played a TOTAL of 9 tournaments (including one where she withdrew midway through) in 20 months, so she's never been able to build momentum.

Just let her get healthy, and the results will take care of themselves.
