That's funny you do not mention Mauresmo... Let's say Maria, but if there as many injured players as last year, who knows?

Justine

Who knows, I think that, at this point, it's kind of wide open. We won't really know who, for sure, until the AO starts. You have to wait and see who wins what tournaments and the like to really get a good guesstimate as to who will, most likely, win. It's too early.

I can't believe you left Mauresmo off and you have Dementieva on the list

Anyway, I guess Justine is the favourite at this point, but I would love to see Martina or Kim win it :D

Stupid poll :tape:

You left out defending champion Mauresmo yet you've included the sisters who are non-factors for year and half and Dementieva who always loses the first round in Melbourne.

:weirdo: :help:

Ben.
Dec 20th, 2006, 08:51 AM
Maybe the poll should of been done a few weeks later even though i voted

Dec 20th, 2006, 09:09 AM
If I had to make a guess now it would have to be either Masha, Justine or Amelie, but who knows we need to see some tennis first.

Dementieva Serve
Dec 20th, 2006, 09:29 AM
Kim Clijsters will win it. You wait and see ;)

I voted for Kim, but first of all I'm surprised Amélie isn't on that list :o and second of all I voted Kim but Justine/Maria are also definite contenders :yeah:

Why is mauresmo not on this list ? I vote Mauresmo will defend her title and actually get to get match point.

silly poll....

first of all, a top 5 player and defending champion is NOT on the list.
second, top 10 player and 3 times champion, 3 times runner up is NOT on the list.

but the william sisters who have not played for many months and we do not know if they are even fit to play are in the list......

i am not saying william sisters are not good, they are real threat anywhere, but Australian Open is a bit too soon for somebody who have not played so long and lowly rank.

It's high time to get real

this thread has been done before.....we all know its wide open

yes but this one is quite original  it has Dementieva but not Mauresmo ,it has Petrova but Kuznetsova is missing i'm quite surprised that Justine and Maria made it in this poll

Vamos.
Dec 20th, 2006, 01:50 PM
Henin in my opinion. How you left the defending champion and best Slam player last year off the list is ridiculous though!

jazar
Dec 20th, 2006, 02:47 PM
that is a shcokingly bad poll, you include the williams sisters who have absolutely no chance and you don't include the reigning champion

Yes, I voted for Venus myself. I would like if Dementieva won, but her bad record at the Australian gives me little hope, unless she gets on a hot streak like she did in 2004 at the French and Flushing Meadows. She's bound to get past the fourth round one day.

Buuuut, like I said, I did vote for Venus. I don't know, she hasn't won a Slam other than Wimbledon and the US Open, and I just get the feeling she's going to surprise everyone down under in a few weeks.

I'd like a Vee/Dementieva final. That'd be fun.

But you can't discredit any of the Slam winners this season, sadly. I mean, I like Mauresmo, but I don't really care for Sharapova or Justine. I'd like if someone different won each Slam next year, but it's always always the same women who get the Slams.

I don't think this AO is open at all. I will be very suprised if Maria or Justine doesn't win it. They are just head and shoulders above the rest of the field in terms of desire and focus.

The defending champion will not win much more than the four matches she won last time.

Dec 20th, 2006, 09:33 PM
The top line contenders are Mauresmo and Henin

Sharapova and Clijsters can win if the above lose early/play below their best

Venus and Serena are obviously capable of winning but who knows with them

Kuznetsova/Petrova could pull a surprise

Patty will win :retard:

I think Sharapova is going to be hard to beat

Dec 20th, 2006, 09:38 PM
that is a shcokingly bad poll, you include the williams sisters who have absolutely no chance and you don't include the reigning champion

so a two time champion there has no chance
that's what everyone said in 05 and look what happend.

AnnaK_4ever
Dec 20th, 2006, 09:49 PM
Only retard could say Serena had no chance in 2005. She played soild (not great) season in 2004 winning 2 titles and made it to the finals at Wimbledon and YEC right before her Melbourne win.
This year, however, is the different case. Serena's form is poor and there is no evidence she will be fit enough to be considered a favourite for the Australian Open 2007.
