Sandrine's goal is to get to improve on her QF best finish at a slam. It's doable but she'll have to pick up her game. Her confidence could have suffered a bit after losing early at RG and Birmingham; however, I trust she'll come out firing.
Here's a look at potential first and second round opponents:
Anca Barna - Not easy but Sandrine's 2-0 against her so I believe she will welcome this matchup after drawing Nathalie and Paola in the first two slams.
Mary Pierce (or Alicia Molik) - Sandrine has a horrible record against Mary but won their last encounter in Canberra last year. Mary has to be riding a wave of confidence after her QF showing in Paris so this will be a hurdle.
I'm not looking any further than this but if you want to be my guest. ;)
3rd - Pratt
4th - Mauresmo
QF - Capriati
SF - S Williams
F - V Williams
ALLEZ SANDRINE!!!
KICK ASS!!! :fiery:

Mary vs. Sandrine
Jun 19th, 2002, 05:37 AM
Good luck to Sandrine :)
Anca shouldnt pose much of a threat on this surface (even tho she played well last year here), but the second round will be tricky whoever it is...Alicia is a little shaky at the moment, while Mary is playing solidly, if a little inconsistent. But both will be no walkover.
The main worry is the resurgent Nicole in round 3 :o But if they are to meet Im sure Sandrine will get some quick revenge ;)
Allez Sandrine! Time to shine!

No seriously, I think it'll be a great match. I wish I could see it. Who knows we might get lucky
Jun 24th, 2002, 04:22 PM
I'll be sad no matter who wins.
Jun 24th, 2002, 06:17 PM
Sorry I couldn't be there for the entire match but I got stuck on a lengthy conference call at work
I was sooooo relieved to see Sandrine get through that second set after being down a break. She definitely kicked it into overdrive in the third, increasing her net approaches, and she'll have to continue playing aggressively against Mary if she wants to get through to the third round. Hopefully her gritty effort today will give her the kick start she needs to go further.
Felicitations Sandrine!
Scott, as Commander in Charge I will not stand for you feeling badly for Mary else I will call for a mutiny! :fiery:
Jun 24th, 2002, 09:29 PM

First match on Court 13....I'll be up early to follow the action. With Scott selling out and my Aussie buds asleep it looks like I may be going solo. :(

Jun 26th, 2002, 03:48 PM
Sorry Sandrine :(
Good luck in the doubles!
Jun 27th, 2002, 04:55 PM
From the Sanex site.
That's really unfortunate because I think they had a really great chance to do well here.
It must be a problem with Roberta because she retired from her mixed doubles match also.
Jul 1st, 2002, 11:59 PM
Actually Roby's fine but both Pavel and Sandrine pulled out due to injury.
I've asked Eggy if he had more information as he's the one who reported this in the Italian Renaissance Forum.
Hope it's nothing serious!
Jul 2nd, 2002, 10:50 PM
Sandrine was feling sick.
Jul 3rd, 2002, 02:44 AM

That week I have to do stuff for stupid college
Jul 3rd, 2002, 01:08 PM
Well, if it's to avoid the embarassment of me scooping Sandrine on your loyalties ;) don't worry about it. Sandrine may not be coming either.
Jul 3rd, 2002, 02:51 PM
Ed? Is that true?
Jul 3rd, 2002, 03:48 PM
I think Sandrine will play. I hope anyway. I'm trying to see with things about the school but they're really picky about us having to be there for those opening things and I just don't know. Pf. I want to go but I don't know. I guess there is always next year.
