I'm pretty sure Nicole is pro since she's played two full seasons on the WTA Tour. ;)

I always thought that being a professional means that you gain money from a sport.

edit: and that these money is enough to make a good living so you don't need another job.

Yes, it's right - if you are an amateur, you don't get paid in tennis either. There was a thing with Alex Stevenson when she had her runat Wimby, and she was still and amateur, but she turned pro half way through the tourney so they would pay her...

I think Peng IS still an amateur

I am alway curious about what decides if a player can turn pro or not  I heard when Peng Shuai told CTA she wanted to train in US and play alone in 2005 , CTA threatened not let her turn pro if she left the national team but fail to get a gold medal in 2008 olympics :o why can't Peng turn pro by herself?

CTA fund part of Shuai's training/travel etc...I think Shuai thought it would be too expensive to try and go it alone in the US having to pay everything herslef. (There was a big discussion about this I think around this time last year...I'm pretty sure that's what was said...)

Peng is still listed as an amateur in the WTA rankings.
It also says she's won $591,928 in prize money, so that should tell you how reliable the website profiles are.
