Players who have been in the top 50 at age 34 or greater??

Obviously Martina Navratilova was still in top 10 as a 37yo but who else in the last 15 years, from 1992 onwards has managed to be ranked in the top 50??

And I say 1992 onwards as thats when power actually started to creep into the game.

The List

Martina Navratilova 37
Natalie Tauziat 34

Conchita Martinez 33

Jill Craybas was top 50 at 32.

Looks like only Tauziat and Navratilova have acheived the feat!

it would be good for Pratt but 1) she still has to get to the top 50 and 2) Navratilova and Tauziat were ranked much higher to 50 at that age. Wasn't Tauziat still in or close to the top 10 when she retired from singles?

Yes but Chris Evert retired before power tennis even started!!

And yes Tauziat and Navratilova were amazing to be so successful at there age, its very tough once u get into your thirty as your body doesnt recover as fast from matches

In 2003 last full season Amanda Coetzer came close, she was top 20 at 32.

Zina Garrison top 20 at 32 in 96.

Novotna was top 5 at 30. Amanda Coetzer finished in the top 25 at 32. Probably Maleeva and Halard-decugis over 30.

Power game or not, the feat is not that common. In the 14 years 1975-89, I can only think of 4, all of whom are multiple grand slam champions. Margaret Court was ranked top 10 when she retired in early 1977 (aged 34), Billie Jean King (bn 1943) was in and out of the top 10 in the late 70s and early 80s when she was in her mid to late 30s, and Virginia Wade (bn 1945) was also around 34 when she left the top 10 for the last time (in 1980, I think). Chrissie, aged 34, was still there throughout 1989.

Thanks Andy T.

Think this posts proves that people need to give Nicole a bit more credit for being ranked where she is at her age!

Steffi and Monica brought power tennis to the game. Monica, in particular, brought the brand of big-babe tennis. They were around before Evert retired.

Chris Evert defeated Monica Seles 6-2, 6-0 in the 1989 Quarterfinals of the US Open, Chris' last GS tournaments. Chris was 34, Monica 15.
