View Full Version : Elena is coming to my hometown!!

Hi everyone :wavey:
I know I don't post in this subforum very often (although I'm a big fan of Elena), but I really wanted to share this good news with you all.
Elena's coming to my hometown!!:bounce:

Elena will be playing in my hometown (Zaragoza, Spain) on December 15th. She will play Svetlana Kuznetsova in a tribute to Conchita Martinez (who will also play a doubles match with Novotna, Maleeva and Ruano or Husarova)
Of course I will be there and I will try to take a lot of pictures and stories to share with you. I hope there will be an autograph signing or something so I could get close to her, I wish :)

Actually, I watched her in Madrid WTA Championships but I arrived on Friday so I just watched her match against Clijsters and couldn't see her around to take pictures or ask for an autograph. I took some pictures of the match but my seat was a bit far from the court so they are not too good.

I love to know she'll be here again.
That means she likes our country, nice weather here for december.
I'd rather prefer her to rest and focus on training though.
She needs to work amazingly hard if she wants to have a good 2007 season.

I really enjoyed the exhibition, it was quite funny. Elena was natural, nice and friendly (as she usually is), the crowd was delighted with her (as also happenned in Madrid WTA Championships).
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get an autograph or a picture with her, there were hundreds of kids around her!! Next time, if I ever manage to go to French Open

Here is a little report of the match:

Elena had a slow start and Kuznetsova got a 5-0 lead on the first set in just a few minutes. Elena looked out of confidence and made a lot of unforced errors from the baseline, while Sveta was much more aggressive and looked very comfortable on court. Hopefully Sveta was more focused on entertaining the crowd and relaxed a little bit. This allowed Elena to get back into the match, although she lost this first set by 6-3.
It seemed that the second set was going to be much better with Elena more confident and solid. But Svetaís jokes broke the rhythm of the match every now and then and although she was funny, people who wanted to watch top level tennis surely felt a bit disappointed. This way Elena got a 2-4 lead in the second set. But Sveta raised her level again and took the second set by 7-5.
Although the final score was close, Kuznetsova always looked in control and her game seemed to be a step higher than Elenaís. As in WTA championships a month ago, Elena didnít play her best tennis, especially from the baseline. On the other hand, I noticed an improvement in second serve.
After the match, Conchita Martinez, Jana Novotna and Jeanette Husarova joined Elena and Sveta for a doubles match. Although this was a show more than a tennis match. Players going on and off court, changing team, cheats and finally Kuznetsova taking the chairman seat made the match fun but very little serious. Of course there were some spectacular points with Elena contributing with some beautiful volleys and dropshots.
The event finished with an emotive and deserved tribute to Martinez.
