You shouldn't scare me like that..I thought something'd happened.
And, yeah, I actually saw a clip of Moscow subway on youtube recently... it definitely brought back some nostalgia. :help: ;)

....... ok probably not the best place for a family holiday :oThe Moscow subway system is actually huge and very complex and wide-reaching (the only reason it gets so packed is because the population of Moscow is about 13 million people - many of whom can't afford cars).
But if you're going to go on it and you don't speak Russian, yeah, best of luck - there are no signs in English, only Russian.
But Russia is a great place for a family vacation! Just from the photos posted you can see that! It's just best to do it with a tour group.

The map is a bit old because the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line (dark blue) has been extended to Park Pobedy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Park_Pobedy)

I really want to go to Russia one day ... in the summer, of course. I would get to practice my Russian, and maybe meet a hot Russian guy. :hearts:
It looks like a really beautiful place. The subway pictures and traffic jams show that there is insufficient urban infrastructure, but I'm sure that will change in the future as Russia's economy improves.
:hearts: Russia :hearts:

okay minus that subway thing, russia looks so gorgeous.
nyc's subways are bad during rush hours, but i don't think i've ever experienced something that bad.

My friends from uni spent there a month during last summer holidays and from what I've heard it wasn't that scary :p ;) I was going to go with them but due to some problems I couldn't  But next year Moscow is mine ;)
Nov 27th, 2006, 08:57 PM
Don't scare me like that. I thought Moscow had been bombed or something. :tape:
Nov 27th, 2006, 09:26 PM
well It's not that scary.
Well Moskva is very beautiful and hope to go there
That guy with the gun...I'm guessing he's a military guard of some sort doing a routine check for bombs or terrorists, or he's just an everyday Moscovite carrying a toy that could get him into a lot of trouble :scared:
And what's up with the traffic? Did the lights die down that particular day or something? It's unlikely the infrastructure there's the problem because the lanes are so wide, but you'd imagine the problem would've been fixed by nightfall.

Moscow traffic, nowadays
The accent of these photos is on enormous Moscow traffic. The situation on road like on this pictures was without any difference during all the day today - both in the daytime and late at night :help:
Morning Edition (http://www.npr.org/templates/rundowns/rundown.php?prgId=3), November 28, 2006 · There used to be a limited number of cars in the former Soviet Union. But now that Moscow is reaping windfall profits from high oil prices, the Russian capital is now overwhelmed with traffic. And conditions are only expected to get deteriorate.
