DoctorG
Nov 16th, 2006, 02:14 PM
Top 20 qualify directly, and this was the situation before the 8th leg:

19 / 1978 - Arn
20 / 1924 - Alek

21 / 1863 - The Crow
22 / 1819 - CanIGetaWhat
23 / 1692 - ARANTXA:simply the best

Alek and ARANTXA:simply the best are already out, while CanIGetaWhat and The Crow are still in.

The problem with Tennis Poker there's not a fixed number of ranking points for each match you win as you can get more even losing earlier thanks to a greater combination.

With a score like the one Josh got last year in this very same leg, you could reach #1 from the bottom of the ranking playing your very first leg. :speakles:

There is always the chance for someone to score something huge and break the top 20 unexpectedly. And, yes, there are some big scores this time. :o

Yep, you're second in line for the best round wild card with your 1st leg final, if Alek qualifies that's yours.

It's likely Josh will get WC#1 as the only Worlds semifinalist outside the top 20, and your best score of 580 would keep you behind Nobody's 600 anyway for WC#3 (and if your scorer is above 600, you should keep a top20 spot for sure).

And there's always the poll wild card. ;)

Per4ever ( 2 ) – CanIGetaWhat ( 1 ) 3-6 7-5 6-3
The Crow ( 3 ) & Arn ( 4 ) – GracefulVenus ( 2 ) & Rocketta ( 3 ) 6-2 6-2
Per4ever ( 2 ) – Rocketta ( 3 ) 6-3 5-7 6-2

Bronze medal for Belgium! :bounce:
Rocketta didn’t play badly at all with a score over 300, and the best scores for the Belgians in this leg were by the doubles players, but Per4ever had an amazing Fed Cup record this year and was not afraid to close it.

FED CUP

1st place final

European Union vs The AdMeans
1 - 3

Princess Fiona ( 1 ) – Hurricane Lily ( 2 ) 4-6 3-6
James ( 2 ) – Josh ( 1 ) 4-6 7-5 3-6
Tetetubby ( 3 ) & Jakub ( 4 ) - Dahveed ( 4 ) & Poe ( 5 ) 6-3 6-1
James ( 2 ) - Carot ( 3 ) 1-6 0-6

The AdMeans are the 2006 Tennis Poker Fed Cup winners!!! :yeah:
With James and Fiona far from their best shape, the key rubber win in this leg was Carot over Per4ever in the play-off tie, but the AdMeans had to fight all through the season for this win, as they were not in the top 2 yet just one leg before the finals.

Congratulations to the AdMeans!!!

I anticipated my loss against carot in singles, cause I felt in our doubles matches that he was in stellar form.

But :woohoo: doubles win, year-end number 1 and the gold medal in the worlds! Wow! :D :D :D

And a bronze medal in Fedcup :bounce: (although we were so close to the gold really  ).

Congrats admeans!

Carot & The Crow also get to #1 again, and that’s a new record, as no pair had been able to regain the top spot after losing it.

SINGLES

Semifinals

Arn ( 21 ) def KC ( 7 ) 7-5 6-1
Carot ( 19 ) def The Crow ( 17 ) 6-2 6-3

KC is not able to avoid an all-Belgian final, and The Crow will be happy to hear he was able to defend all last year’s points to reach a seeded spot at #15. :yeah:
It will be an interesting final, I can anticipate both finalists have made huge ranking jumps, pole vaulting into the top 8! :bounce:

Are you serious? :bounce: Wow, I cannot remember the last time I had my place in the top-10 :D

It will be an interesting final, I have no clue what way it will go

The most consistent player ever, with 38 and counting consecutive legs in the top 20 (which is almost 5 whole years! :speakles: ), finally found a major breaktrough leg with the best score of all the 2006 season.
Top class result for the former #1 Arn too, who will be up to #6 and back to the top 8 after more than 2 years. :yeah:

Congratulations to Carot!!!

I would like to thank all the players for their support and I hope you all will be back for the 2007 first leg. :)

There's still much to do during the off-season: I'll post the 8th leg results by event, then the Year-End rankings, with the Worlds line-up; tomorrow I will announce the Awards nominations and start tracking all the players who haven't confirmed their presence for next year yet; not to mention the Winter Olympics are still on.

Thank you everyone! :wavey:
