View Full Version : Momo and Justine final is BAD for Tennis

Im not going to watch, but I guess I want Justine to win. Even though she is a sourpuss.

Im sorry but its true. Neither have much personailty or style or feminine qualities which is what drives womens tennis. Try to avoid the facts all you want.

At least Serena has flair AND style :worship:

at least Masha has beauty AND power AND a fiery personality :worship:

at least Martina has beauty AND femininity :hearts:

at least Kim has her splits, lol :hearts: AND somewhat feminine look

at least Venus has style :worship:

at least Lindsay has femininity AND an "aw shucks" attitude, and is USA :worship:

and so on...

I simply cannot root for either of the finalists...they are good players, but I cant root for them.

Now listen, Im not saying you have to be all girly or beautiful at all, but at least show some personality/substance or style/fashion, SOMETHING!!!!!!!

The only thing about this final to me, is to see Justine win and count how many "allez" she yells.

I hope fans of Justine and Momo enjoy it, for real. Your players did well and diserve to be in final.

But I cant watch it.

it will be a good final. but i don't think mauresmo deserves to be there. if it was clijsters instead of mauresmo it would be worse cos she just can't handle justine anymore, especially in important matches. i think sharapova deserves to be there. she would add glamour and i think more people would watch it if she was in the final.
sharapova against henin-hardenne would be a good final. its just a shame they played in the semis. sharapova-mauresmo would be good as well, only because sharapova could carry on where she left off at the US Open and bagel momo some more

And i think it will take years to see an US player in YEC again.... i'm sorry about that but it seems to be the sad truth..... ;)

Wow, sexism, shallowness, and jingoism all in one post. As if women need to adhere to what your society has arbitrarily deemed "feminine" in order to be considered worthy.

I for one am glad that tomorrow we won't be hearing shrieks every time a ball is hit; that tomorrow we'll see a lot of netplay and stylish backhands; and that tomorrow superficiality will take a backseat to substance, in more than one sense of that phrase.

If you're really looking for "feminine stimulation", might I suggest you check out "the internet"? It's crammed full of porn and AK pics, which might satisfy you. :)

Meantime, I will be tuning in to watch great tennis, which is what JHH and AM deliver in spades. Incidentally, that is what they are there for.
This is not a girls gone wild video. I could care less about how "feminine", fashionable, straight or hot they are.
I just appreciate that they are talented and play the varied game that so few can nowadays.

To MikeJones : You obviously know nothing about Amelie Mauresmo, when you say she has no "substance". There are numerous interviews and articles on the internet about Amelie, that if you were to read, you would find she is a very intelligent and thoughtful young lady with considerable "substance" ..

Mauresmo and Henin have tennis, period. If you don´t like them then don´t watch the match, but no one can dispute that they are the two best players in the world and the two best players of the year, i think this tournament, or they both transformed this tournament in a kind of justice for both of them.

And regarding style i think like it or not Henin and Mauresmo has as much of stlye and probably are as much of complete players than the players you just mentioned on the list.

And for me watch Venus hit tons of unforced errors, see Serena being a shadow of herself or watching your all "beauty" Sharapova "cheat" her way to a point or scream the whole match is not really what i am looking for or relate it to good for tennis, period.

Apparently 100% of them knew they did not want a republican run house and that's why they voted democratic.

The poster is almost right.
C'mon admit it, a Serena-Maria final has more anticipation about it than a Amelie-Justine. And that's purely to do with on-court and off-court personality. Players like Serena and Maria court publicity and play the media game, therefore it's natural that people get hyped about them playing, Justine and Amelie don't want to and don't do this, which is fine and probably v. sensible, but it means we kinda have less attachment to them as a fan.

I think the poster makes some sense.. not saying I agree with the way in which it was written. If this was a Sharapova-Serena match up the rating would be much higher overall than the match up we're getting tomorrow. I think that's what he's trying to get across.

I'm impartial on tomorrow's match. Though, it would be nice to see Momo complete a fantastic year.

But I cant watch it.

I can't believe what I'm reading. If you don't like Mauresmo and Henin Hardenne, that's OK, I can respect it.
But your arguments are so stupid and shallow...

- Serena has style??? Umm I guess we have different ideas of what style is. How many times did she make the top of Celebs' worst dressed?
- Martina was only that famous because she was very young when she started winning, and because she was a total bitch. And her game. Not because of her looks...
- Kim: please find something else than her splits because JHH and Mauresmo's athletism are at least as entertaining as Clijsters's splits. And she's not a model either by the way.
- I saved best for last. Lindsay has feminity. Are you BLIND??? You're putting Davenport much higher than Mauresmo and Henin in terms of feminity / beauty?? You must be kidding.
But she's American!!

I dont believe i'm even discussing that - I guess I do it just because your arguments are so biased and wrong. But feminity, beauty, style and even personality - and being American - have nothing to do with tennis quality.
But if you wanna talk about personality, I dont see how you can say that Mauresmo and Henin have none just because they dont go bitching about everybody. I mean who are you to say Sharapova has more personality? Just because she yells at every point and is famous in the USA because of her looks and commercial skills, doesnt mean she has personality. (though not denying her talent, but its not the reason she's famous in the US)

And of course, you completely deny the drama of the great rivalry between the 2 players of the year.... So baaaaaad for tennis.

Very well said...I'm sick of all these posters coming along and basically (thinly veiled as it is here) not only upholding short skirts, tall girls and glamour on the WTA tour but saying it's the only thing that adds style of substance. Newsflash: that's simply not true. And I say this as someone who actually happens to root for Maria Sharapova and players like her. And, moreover, the old adage beauty is in the eye of the beholder rings true - Masha is pretty, yep, but I happen to think that Justine is too. But all these superficial things are totally secondary to the quality of their play, which for me, anyway, is the crucial thing. OP: Be shallow, if you want, and misguided. But you'll be missing out on a hell of lot of fantastic matches.

Mauresmo and Henin-Hardenne have two of the most beautiful games that I have seen in a decade of watching tennis. I love watching HH's mobility, which is reminiscent of Graf, and of course her incredible backhand that is complimented by a supreme versatile all-court game. I love Mauresmo's athleticism and backhand as well, especially when Mauresmo attacks the net.

However, I agree that this is not a match that will win over new fans or even casual fans, and I confess that I am less interested in women's tennis today in no small part because there is less star power and drama than there was in the heyday of Venus/Serena/Kournikova/Hingis/Seles/Pierce/Capriati. I think the match will NOT be bad at all for tennis because Amelie and Justine are two great champions and tennis purists everywhere will be happy, and that can't be a bad thing.

How can a final between two of the most intelligent and graceful players ever to set foot on a tennis court be bad. They both have natural backhands which are fantastic to watch. They both have more versatility and variety of shots than the rest of the women players put together.
Anyone who cannot appreciated that does not truely appreciate or understand tennis.
They are also commited tennis players of their own choosing, rather than being pushed into it or just being in it for the money and fame.
Both of them shun the liemlight outside of the tennis circiit and rightly so as they wish to be treated like every other professional sports person rather than just another talentless, boring, famous-for-five-minutes celebrity.

Yeah, I personally think this final will be good for the game. They have had the best two years above everyone and they have great games and exciting personalities. For americans: boring
For Europeans: exciting match between two very popular athletes

Dont think that because you don't find it interesting that millions of other people at places outside of the USA ( yes, they do exist) don't.
And there also are some people who love to watch tennis for the love of the game itself ( insert huge gasp here) than to see two girls in a short skirt.

The original poster is just mad because the AMERICAN WOMEN are in the toilet! Don't blame European DOMINATION for the fault of the laziness of Venus and Serena and Lindsay. Typical American.

If an American player isn't in the final then the match is boring. So typical it's funny. Just read the ESPN tennis messageboard and you will see what they are like

Morrissey
Nov 12th, 2006, 01:02 AM
I skip the ESPN.COM boards they are too bitter over there. The Americans over there hate Maria because she's Russian. They can't stand Justine and they hate Roger Federer. If the Americans aren't on top something is wrong with their world. Nothing is wrong with tennis its a global sport now and its great that the Europeans are back on top.
