Patty would be better than Elena

She would have more chance of winning a match (her last match against Maria was good) and we could finally see the Swiss missus showdown.

Patty could have proven you right, had she played better all year and qualified fo the YEC:devil:

Patty's a good player, but based on her results this year there's no evidence to suggest that she would have done better than Elena. She's beaten Henin-Hardenne once this year, and her only other wins over top-ten players were over Dementieva herself.

A 'better chance' doesn't translate to actually winning.

Lena is playing very well. If she had caught Sveta on a bad day, this would be an important match.

I find Elena better, but at this tournament she isn't playing well.

Kim played really bad in the first, but still won it. So that's says enough about Elena's game at the moment.

patty has the trickier game so she could trouble the other players more. elena has been playing very uncreative tennis for the last 2 years. hitting back the same ball 100 times isn't enough to win against top names.

Last year Patty won a match at YEC and her other match against Maris went to 3 sets. It's much better than anythin Elena did at YEC since 2000.

And this year she didn't play well enough to qualify...nor did she get lucky enough to have someone pull out of the tournament. She might have won more games, or even a match, she might not have. The important thing is we'll never know because she didn't put herself in a position to even have a chance

yeah almost ;) Qualifying for a 10K ITF challenger and needing 3 sets to beat players ranked in the 300-600s is ALMOST like qualifying for the YEC

Lena beat Patty in last match between them, so I think lena deserved to went to Madrid.

Yes at the YEC she would definitely be better than Lena, BUT Lena was better than Patty the whole year and only the 8 best have the right to play.

Let me say some things :
- If Patty played she could have lost all her matches 6-0 6-0.
- If Dementieva played in Hingis' group, she'd probably be in the semis, because she'd beaten Hingis, and then she could have won the YEC, because winning against Hingis would have brought her the confidence she needed.

If you can't prove me wrong, then I'm right, ain't I ?

But what is sure is that Dementieva despite her average of 10 DF per match earned her spot at the YEC, while Patty and her playing 26 tournies this year didn't.
