can't believe all of these players will be gone in 2009
tennis will probably be at a low point, with even Petrova capable of sneaking away with some Slams

2009 is ages away but i think it will be sharapova and the young players coming through now. vaidisova is almost there, she just needs to sort it out mentally and work on her movement. golovin, just the same stuff as vaidisova. chekvetadze, jankovic and a lot of other eastern europeans.

Why does the OP think Justine will retire in 2009? She won't even be 30, not even close in fact.

Anyway Serena will only be 28 and have just completed the Golden Slam in 2008 so will be set for another year of domination :D

Oh my god I didn't post in 2006 on this board but thanks for bringing back this thread, how spooky. Damn Williams sisters are still around to bore me silly. How right the OP was in regard to those retirements and how wrong others were about Sharapova. I recall a thread about who will be in the Top 10 for the 2012 Olympics, I hope someone brings back that thread when it time comes, surely by then the Williams will be gone.

tennis will probably be at a low point, with even Petrova capable of sneaking away with some Slams :sad:Wow. That's hysterical. You failed to mention three active multi-slam winners. In fact, the players you didn't mention have more slams than the players you asked after.

And. if I'm not mistaken, four is about the max where active multi-slam winners are concerned. Might have bee five in the early seventies, but that's rare.
