View Full Version : YEC R1: Nadia PETROVA vs Martina HINGIS - Who will win?

Barlos
Nov 7th, 2006, 11:48 PM
Will Nadia secure her place in the semi-finals or will Martina keep her YEC hopes alive.

Based on today's performances Nadia seems the obvious winner but Martina is certainly capable of pulling off the upset.

I'd say Nadia in 3.

As much as I would like to believe that Martina is going to win, I think Petrova will win, she's done amazing these last tournaments and she has more rest.

I hope Petrova can beat Henin and acceed to the final, but I hope Hingis wins this so that she can have hopes, cause I want both to qualify.
But if Petrova wins I won't be sad either you know?

nadia'll win in two comfortable sets. i don't see martina hurting her. plus, nadia was really aggressive off her returns today, and i can easily see her knocking off hingis' weak serves.

mauresmo's serve with an injured shoulder > hingis' serve on a good day. :tape:

Definitely Petrova...hope not though.

It's difficult to assess this one. Petrova can be good one day and flat the next. I think Martina has actually gained confidence by taking a set off of Henin so she'll be excited to continue to test herself against the best. I would say Petrova by a slight margin because of her power differential and confident win against Mauresmo. Hingis' skills based on guilde and technique are not very tangible like Petrova's but she has weapons to use for sure.

Hopefully Nadia will bitchslap Hingis in straight sets - but the Swiss star will use her reserves of crafty tactical nous and undoubted pedigree to take this all the way.

Petrova 6-2, 3-6, 6-4

under normal conditions, i would say 50-50...

however seeing hingis had a late night match which ran to 3 sets, and nadia much shorter much which finish much earlier, and also knowing hingis has quite poor fitness level, i would say nadia is a heavy favourite.

I'm going with Nadia to win, after her win against Mauresmo yesterday, plus she will be more rested than Martina.

Though obviously I hope Martina pulls off the upset ;)

Considering Nadia's performance of yesterday she should win in straight sets like 6:4 6:3.

However I put alot of vcash on Nadia and this means that she will find a way to lose. :tape:

I can only see martina winning if she wins the first set, she has had alot of slow starts this year (or has just been blown off court by harder hitters at the beginning). If martina can sneak a close first set i think the match will be in her hands.

Martina 6-4 6-4

or

Petrova 7-5 6-3

Volleys to Petrova? Hardly. I agree that if Martina doesn't pick it up she'll lose, but she has a far better net game than Nadia.

Hmm...I don't agree with that at all. She could beat Nadia if she chose to use all of her skills but if last night was any indication, she might not be prepared to do that right now...

Dear Martina, Please get a coach! :help:

She is certainly a lot more natural at net than Petrova but Nadia has great volleys!

Does anyone else think that Martina should start playing a bit of doubles again??
Her net play was TERRIBLE yesterday, her timing and confidence at net are very off right now, perhaps it has something to do with Justine's presence on the other side of the net, but still, some off those misses were inexcusable :fiery:
