What do you think are the Pros and Cons of the Round Robin format used at the YEC?
For me....
PROS: fans get to see more marque matches; a player can lose the 1st match and still have a chance to win
CONS: Players doent get easier "early" rounds to get their game up to "A" level producing some lopsided results you usually dont see (ex... Petrova crushing Momo 2&2 today);you can get a semi-finalist from a group who has only won 1 of their RR matches; only 8 players get in where 16 used to get in before

I prefered the 16 players format!!
So Nastya could have qualified in 2005 and 2006....

They tried it with 16, but there aren't 16 players on the same level.
At least here, 4 or 5 of them have a real chance to win the title.
No reason to have another 8

You just gave a good example of why RR is better. :)

Maybe having young players here like Anna C, Ana I and Nicole would be interesting.
But they all get a fair chance to get here next year.
So does Anastasia

Nastya is 18 with only a half season:worship:
she just stopped playing after Wimbledon:rolleyes:
Anyway I think a 16 format is better!
No more "no-match" like Sharapova last year against Petrova:rolleyes:

That's not the fault of RR, that's the fault of the WTA.

Obviously the biggest pro is that all the top players are going to be facing each other with the hope of close matches.
But I still feel that 9-16 are being slighted considering it was a 16-player draw for so many years.
There are a lot of exciting, dangerous players in that group not invited to Madrid. I just feel they are missing out on an experience that many players got to have in years past.
