The cable channel, Versus, is carrying the YEC. If you live in the NYC area and have Cablevision, it is on channel 408 on the digital service.

ESPN does not consider women's tennis to be important.

I have heard they don't plan to show any women's matches at the AO.

It's pathetic. The YEC has fallen so far since it left New York in 2001. :( :o And now ESPN2 won't even cover the WTA Tour championships.

ESP(me)N can shove it as far as I'm concerned. Their covereage sucked. Versus will be showing all of the round robin matches, not a select few, thank goodness. Here's the schedule:

No, the American viewing public does not consider women's tennis to be important, or at least not as important as poker.

I'm guessing OLN is now Versus because it has replaced OLN on my digital cable.

I don't know if this is a great idea. I will get to watch tennis but at the same time who the hell will be the commentators.

There's nothing worse than a commentator who doesn't know what the hell they're talking about.

Or

Not as important when you have none of
your prominent players apart of it. ;)

or

ESPN is telling them what they like (or should like)
as men's tennis isn't nearly as popular as women's
ratings wise, yet ESPN2 has a full line-up of the
Master Cup for next week.

Austin, Ryan, Woodforde Form Versus Team For WTA Tour Championships

Tracy Austin By Tennis Week
11/02/2006

The final team has been named for the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championships. Versus, which will televise the season-ending event in Madrid, told Tennis Week Tim Ryan, Tracy Austin and Mark Woodforde will form the broadcast team for the six-day tournament.

Grand Slam broadcast veteran Tim Ryan will serve as play-by-play announcer, Hall of Famer Austin has signed on as analyst and Grand Slam doubles champion Woodforde will be the roving sideline reporter for Versus' coverage.

The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championships have a new home this year. Actually, the Tour Championships have two new homes and one has been renamed. The WTA Tour Championships returns to European soil for the first time since 2001 when the tournament makes its debut in Madrid, November 7-12.

The tournament's new American television home is Versus (formerly known as OLN), which televised the Davis Cup semifinals between the host Russia and visiting United States in September.

The tournament concluded its four-year run at Los Angeles' Staples Center last November as Amelie Mauresmo edged French Fed Cup teammate Mary Pierce 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-4 victory in three hours, six minutes to become the first French woman in history to capture the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championship.

Versus, which succeeds ESPN2 as the American television home for the 2006 WTA Tour Championships, will provide tape-delay coverage of the tournament starting on Tuesday, November 7. Madrid is six hours ahead of the United States' Eastern time. Versus plans to present six days of WTA Tour Championships coverage, concluding with the final, which will be telecast on tape delay starting at 6 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday, November 12.

Again, according to the Directv guide, the championships will not be on this channel. I hope the website is right. It's a shame that the women's game has fallen so low. Sad as it may sounds, this is another reason we need the Williams back. They brought unbelievable ratings.

What's wrong with Austin? She's a hall-of-famer, is opinionated and has a personality--exactly the qualities a good analyst should have. I think she and Ryan will make a fine duo.

Now, that bunch from the Tennis Channel is about as bad as it gets in the English language. Shiras and Adams are so bad that I'd even rather listen to those matches in French.

Austin is fine if you are a Sharapova fan b/c she always up Maria's ass but it gets really annoying...she finds ways to talk about Sharapva even when Maria isn't playing...so basically this week all we will hear is how wonderful Maria is
