I first saw Kaia play in the semi's of the 25K at Redbridge in 2004 when she got beaten by Chakvetadze. After the match I well remember seeing her sitting on her own in a corner of the sports centre, looking pretty unhappy - so I'm very glad to see how far she's come since then and that she has a great future.

Yeah but that was 2001. So what I can't understand is what's she been doing to be lingering down the rankings between then and this tournament.

To a certain extent I can see she had no pressure on her playing Kim. And players often play well above themselves in those situations. Especially with the real weapons she's got. Just give it a go and when the shots land in .... But even so - I still just don't understand at all what she's been doing all this time with a game like she's got.

Kaia was sidelined with injuries when she started her transition to the pro Tour and she didn't fulfilled her potential. Her last big injury was in summer 2004 when she played the Olympics in August and didn't compete until 7 months later in a $10K in Germany (March 2005) Her last half of season of 2005 was stunning winning $75K Fano, reaching the final at $75K+H Dubai and reaching the semis at Tier III Kolkatta. Ranked in the 500's at mid season she reached the top 100 at the end of last year :worship:
