I watched Kanepi play a few years ago. She was quite heavy, and very slow, and her shot selection was quite flashy, so she used to struggle a lot against defensive players. She took a while to get it together, and stagnated for a while. She always had the weapons to cause problems though. I think now that her fitness has improved she'll start to show better results and beat top 50 players more regularly. Great showing this week, but i'm really glad to see Kim back and winning titles.

kanepi did really well, and pushed clijsters close, but it was a title clijsters was expected to win nonetheless

Kanepi is really the player to watch in the future :yeah:

I made my own stats coz the one that were given after some previous matches in this tounaments made me wonder
So if anyone's interested I'll post them.
Kim Kaia
Aces - 1 5
DFs - 3 4
Unreturned Serves - 11 26
Winners - 21 36
UEs - 32 48
Note: according to the stats that were shown after the match Kim had 62 winners, Kanepi 65, Kim had 22 UEs and Kanepi 34... I don't know who made those stats :help:

OMG, how did Kim pull this one out? Kim was playing well, did nothing wrong but Kanepi is really strong. We'll hear more from her, no wonder she could beat Schiavone and Kraijcek.
Kim kept fighting.

Well, Hasselt is only a Tier III but the last 2 matches offered Kim an excellent workout for Madrid.

Yep - I don't know how Kim managed to pull this one out. But I'm relieved she did.

And I still don't understand how come Kanepi can play like that this tournament and be ranked so low - so what on earth is she doing the rest of the time?

Kanepi really had some weapons that hurt Kim and most of the time they were all going in. Kim was certainly forced on the defence a lot of the time trying to stay in the point.

Yes, Kanapi played really well. I'm sure we will hear more from her :)

But I think this match and the match from yesterday was just what Kim needed for the YEC. It were both difficult matches and we saw Kim fighting for every ball. And I think that was a good sign.

I hope she will do well at the YEC :D
