MADRID.- El Masters de Madrid comienza a calentar motores una vez que se conoce la disposición de las ocho tenistas en los grupos previos. En el amarillo estarán Mauresmo, Henin, Petrova y Hingis; en el rojo, tres de las cuatro rusas: Sharapova, Dementieva, Kuznetsova y la belga Klijsters.

Por primera vez en una década, Estados Unidos no incluye a ninguna tenista. Esta ausencia en el top del tenis lo suple la legión rusa, que durante los últimos años ha nutrido las últimas rondas de los grandes torneos. El resultado, el dominio en número del Sony Ericcson Championship, en el que la mitad de las participantes será de este país.

She hasnt beaten any of the players in her group this year, so in one way it is a positive thing for her, a chance to score wins against the hottest players. Then again, typical that the 3 players she HAS beaten this year are drawn in the other half!!!!

Martina really got a great draw, she is playing Henin and Mauresmo who despite their great years are coming back from injury, and Mauresmo´s form of late has not been that good, plus she is playing Petrova for the first time this year, so i think it´s going to be extremly interesting.
Hingis was not going to get Dementieva anyway, Sharapova at this point would have been untouchable for Hingis, and Svetlana has played way better than Mauresmo since the Usopen.

I think the semis will be Maria vs Justine and Kim vs Nadia.

Why? I think they're both pretty equal. Three real contenders for the semis in each group. Mauresmo, Henin-Hardenne and Petrova can all pretend for a SF spot, just like Sharapova, Kuznetsova and Clijsters (if she finds her level back).
As for the winner, it's between 1. Sharapova, 2. Henin-Hardenne, 3. Kuznetsova and 4. Mauresmo I think.

Yeah that's what I was hoping for too. And so this draw is cooperating so far. Maria will have to be smart about playing her round robin matches.

I actually think Martina has a chance to make the semis. She has two players who are coming back from injury time outs and one whom she can beat mentally. Martina will have to serve fairly well though.

I think Maria will win This and she is gonna lose 1 set like US OPEN. She doesn't need to give Henin 6-1 and 7-5 is very good also.

The draws look pretty tough no matter which group you are in.

i think the draw is equal and tough for both players i mean dementieva and svetlana can be unbeatable when in form and kim aswell i mean thats by no means an easy draw for maria. then justine amelie petrova and hingis this is a tough group too. i predict kim and maria to come out of their group and justine and petrova out of the other. i predict maria to beat justine in the semis and kim to beat petrova in other semi and maria to beat kim in the final! :) good luck girls!

hingis' group is tough, but this is the YEC. there are no easy draws. and i must say, if there are three players i would LOVE for hingis to bitch-slap, it's definitely petrova, mauresmo, and henin :devil:

besides, the one player everyone else wants to avoid is sharapova. henin and mauresmo haven't played in forever... they're more than beatable. petrova is always beatable.

Hmm quite interesting. I don't really care about the Yellow Group as long as Nadia gets through. For me the Red Group is really attractive. Sharapova probably will win all the matches. Dream draw for Sharapova.. She gets opponents who won't be able threaten her indoors. And Henin gets Mauresmo, who beat her in all big matches these year, Nadya, who had the second best indoor season and who always plays Henin tough, and Hingis, who can be very good indoors. Sharapova's bid for year end #1 is given a major boost by this draw.
