HINGIS will surprise me if she can reach the quarter finals.

she made the quarters as a wildcard, so with a better draw, as a seeded player, she'll go even further :p

also australian open is her best GS, so a quarter-final finish would be poor

i have feelings hingis might do pretty well in Aussie. I hope she at least reaches the final, if not semis.

My first favourite to win is Hingis, then Davenport, then Venus/Serena.

I want a riveting two weeks of tennis, in all five events :worship:

My prefered results would be:
Men's Singles: Roddick d. Nadal
Women's Singles: Elena Dementieva def. Nadia Petrova (with Ai having reached the semifinals ^^)
Women's Doubles: Hantuyama def. Yan/Zheng
Men's Doubles: Ullyett/Hanley def. Nestor/Knowles

And these hopes won't change over the off-season :)

us aussies love martina and martina loves us! as soon as all the aussies are out (which is later and later each year!!) we throw our support behind Martina and Kim. They are our 'extended family'

Winner: Hingis
R/U: Clijsters

Aaron68
Oct 30th, 2006, 08:25 PM
Sharapova d. Hingis 7:6 7:5

The Hingis part I am less sure about. The Masha part, I feel confident. The way her game has come along, the confidence she will have at the beginning of next year, the fact that she *almost* made the F in 2006 ... all these things lead me to believe that she is the woman to beat.

And Hingis will have a high seed, so there's a decent chance she can move along farther than she did in '06. She loves this tournament.

I just don't think J2H or Mauresmo will win.

Sharapova is obviously on fire now, and will probably improve over the off season--especially physically. If she is healthy, she has a really good shot.

Hingis always does phenomenally on the ace and in Oz...Depending on how hard she's willing to work in the off season, I like her chances.

Vaidisova and Ivanovic have the power and the brains to be dangerous. To me, their breakthroughs are questions of when, not if.

Sveta can never be counted out, but I just don't think she has the head to win majors again.

Jelena J doesn't really have the serve, sorry.

So yeah, I'd say Maria and Martina both have good shots.

also australian open is her best GS, so a quarter-final finish would be poor

Hingis couldn't possibly have a better draw in 2007 than she had in 2006 even as a high seed:

2006 AO for Hingis:
Rnd Opponent Rank W/L Score
R128 H2H (30) ZVONAREVA, VERA RUS 29 W 6-1 6-2
R64 H2H LAINE, EMMA FIN 85 W 6-1 6-1
R32 H2H BENESOVA, IVETA CZE 42 W 6-4 6-1
R16 H2H STOSUR, SAMANTHA AUS 98 W 6-1 7-6(8)
Q H2H (2) CLIJSTERS, KIM BEL 2 L 6-3 2-6 6-4

Chances are it will be much tougher and the players will not be surprised by her "strange" game.

I think we should see what happens in the YEC before getting too carried away with predictions.

I wasn't born yet in the 80's and I was a :baby: in the 90's. :p

Well, look at the results. Between Evert, Navratilova, Graf, Seles, Hingis, and a small handful of other players, every Slam for twenty years was won by them.

Between 1980 and 1999, out of the 80 Slams contested, 61 were won by either Evert, Navratilova, Graf, Seles, or Hingis.

From 82-84, every Slam was won by either Martina Navratilova or Chris Evert. Every one for three years.

The same thing happened between 91-93, except it was Graf and Seles.

There is WAY more diversity in winners now than there has been in a long time.

Lindsayfan32
Oct 31st, 2006, 10:09 AM
OK Lindsay is entered in next year's Hong Kong event so I am pretty sure she going to play the oz open next year. She going to defy her 30 something ranking and seed and break her seven year slam drought and then retire at Indian wells in March. Falling short of that I hope Kim wins her first or Amelie defends her title and both the Williams sister bomb in the 1st round that would be a great oz open for me. Until Lindsay announces her retirement I live in hope.
