2 majors.
Always a threat.
Never to #1, I think her career high is #3.

All GS champions should be inducted. Let alone multiple Slam champions. Let alone Slam champions in both singles and doubles.

2 Grand Slams
4 other Slam final
at least one title on every surface and 18 in total
the way she came back so many times form injury
the pure long gevity of her career
She got to #3 and could have been number one on talenet
top ten 7 years of her career
top 15 9 years of her careerI think she really deserved it.

Throw in a doubles slam, a mixed slam, and a Fed Cup title for good measure as well. I would be very surprised if she weren't inducted, even if her career stops today.

Marie will be in the HOF for sure... What a career and without the numerous injuries, I think she could've been even better! And that's scary!!!

She deserves it, so she better get in. I mean, she has accomplished so much in her career.

No question about it!

Nope. Has won around equal amount singles titles(18) as years she's been a pro. Only 10 doubles titles.

Novotna has lots of doubles titles. But as someone said, they did let Sabatini in...

She deserves it, so she better get in. I mean, she has accomplished so much in her career.

There are others who have won more singles grand slam titles that have not made it. Heck, Pam Shriver made it in and she never won a grand slam singles title.

I think the Open Era players seem to have an easier time getting into the International Tennis Hall of Fame because of the depth of competition and there's not as much "amateur vs professional" baggage as there was in previous decades.

There is a degree of politics involved. And that's all I'll say about that.

If Sabatini and Novotna are in, it'd be terribly unlucky for Mary not to be.

Mary Pierce will doubtlessly be inducted into the Hall of Fame. She has had (and may continue to have) an amazing career. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone on the nominating committee who would have reservations about giving her the green light.

She's won two Slams and been in the final of another four. She's had great results against top players, and she simply has one of the most powerful games in the history of the sport. The sheer longevity of her career (and her multiple comebacks to top-ten form from injury) speaks volumes about her talent and perseverance.

Mary Pierce made her way into the Hall of Fame years ago. Even if she didn't have the great run she had in 2005, she'd still be a shoe-in for the HOF. :worship:

(Get well soon, Mary!)

Equipped is right ... Mary was in the HOF right after Roland Garros 2000, when she won her 2nd GS singles title and a GS doubles title to go along with it ...

then she added Fed Cup title, 2 more GS finals, YEC final, GS mixed title ... that is just gravy baby

she is 1000% in the HOF

Is Mary Pierce worthy of induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame? I don't think so. Will Mary Pierce be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame? Probably so, and she has Tracy Austin and Gabriela Sabatini to thank for that.

Oct 29th, 2006, 04:34 AM
Yes. Her 2005 sealed it. I'm not 100% sure she would have deserved it without that comeback. Until that point, her career had been characterized most by inconsistency, but then she was able to add longevity to her resume with her slam finals last year.

Probably not in the classic sense of a "HOF"... but based on the precedents of the Tennis HOF, she gets in.

Mary definitely deserves to be there. Not only did she win two grand slams, but she came back a few years later and reached another couple finals.

I think Mary Pierce deserves to be in the HOF and honestly I think she will be after she retires.

Tennis and Mary Pierce are often found in the same book in the library, simple as that (so to speak)

Oct 29th, 2006, 07:22 AM
I agree with Darrin. A lot of lesser players are in, so she'll be in. The HOF has really seemed to lower it's standards, but she really has earned a spot there. 4 total majors, Fed Cup, etc. She's as in as Serena

Jana got into th HOF of one slam Gaby got in one with one slam the list goes on. Mary will get in five years from when she retires for sure she done a heck of a lot more than both of them.

Kemper
Oct 29th, 2006, 12:37 PM
she's way better than novotna and sabatini. so yes!

Sabatini has a 0.77 career winning percentage (27 singles titles).
Novotna has 0.73 (24 singles titles).
Pierce is at 0.68 (18 singles titles).

Pierce "way better"?
OMG ....

Of Course!
Gabi Sabatini is at the HOF... Why not Mary?

Because Sabatini won 77 % of her career matches and Pierce only 68 %?
Because Sabatini was top 10 for 10 consecutive years?

OK, Pierce deserves it. But Gaby even more.

but mary pierce lost alot of matches because she was just back from injuries

MistyGrey

I loved Gaby and Jana, and its really not fair how people are underestimting their achievements. However, as far as grandslams are concerned, Mary has had a better career than both of them. 2 GS titles compared to 1, 4 GS finals compared to 2 for Gaby and 3 for Jana. As far as the majors are concerned, Mary has double the numbers Gaby had.
2GS>1GS
2GS doubles>1GS Doubles
4GS Finals>2GS Finals

Lets not compare Gaby,Jana and Mary. I love em all
They all deserve to be in.

It's amusing the way a sole grand slam win more equals Pierce being so much better than Novotna or Sabatini for some people .

That said, it's hard to make a case against Mary being in the Hall of Fame because of that extra slam win.

definitely.i find this a no-brainer though

crazillo
Oct 29th, 2006, 02:13 PM
Yes. :)

All deserved it. Gaby had a very consistent GS carrer and Jana had the doubles, Pierce was really competitve for many years, though Novotna and Gaby never had years like Mary where they were only in the top-30 somewhere - still they all belong there IMO.
