And it's not a bold question!
Personally, I think she will but...
... She lost all matches in straights in 2004 and 2005. She has 3-11 overall record at YEC and 2 of 3 wins came on her debut in 2000. She won only 6 sets at YEC having lost 25 sets! In fact, her every win was a three-setter and her every loss was a straight-setter.

Elena is well rested for the YEC this year. She's ready to do some damage in Madrid.

If Clijsters makes it to the final in Hasselt Lena and Martina will be in the different groups, otherwise they could be in the same group.

They can't both lose all their matches if they are. :)

Elena is well rested for the YEC this year. She's ready to do some damage in Madrid.

Im thinking the same thing, last year she played way way too much at the end of the season in order to guarantee a position at the YEC and by the time she got there she was exhausted which is why she didnt win more than 3games in a set in her 3 matches, in 04 the whole yr had taken so much out of her getting to 2 slam finals and she was in the toughest YEC group of all that yr and in 03 she was visibly tired, this yr she has played just 3 indoor events and was upset early on in 2 of them and upset later on in Moscow, she hasnt really been in form on the carpet and has really had to fight to win the matches she has won and when you look at her career lena's best results come after shes had a rough patch for example after losing the 1st round of Aus going onto in her next tournie to win her 1st tier 1 ;) i think she is going to surprise everyone this yr at the YEC i have a feeling, shes gonna win a few matches at least this yr anyway i think

i'm hoping for the best. i feel like in 2004, she was mentally burnt out from losing all of those important finals. in 2005, she literally played every week...so she was definitely burnt out.

this year, she has won 2 out of 3 finals, she won her first tier 1, she has beaten a red hot clijsters (in straights!), henin-hardenne, sharapova (in straights!)...i think she can do it. she's also defeated hingis...hasn't played mauresmo or petrova yet this year.

Elena has had a slump and injury problems throughout the indoor season.

If she is fit, refreshed and serving adequately she is capable of beating anyone. Very much a form-girl, if she wins her first match at YEC:o Ms Dementieva could cause some real damage:drool:

Knowing how unpredictable she can be she'll probably exceed everyone's expectations and win the whole thing.

The field in 2004 and 2005 were weaker than this year... (ie the entire top 8 will be there this year), knowing Lena, she's probably gonna defy the 'odds' again and win a couple of matches...

lena will win a match at least. i mean nearly every1's on even keel once they play. but who no's, she could disappoint once again.

She's due some wins, she's got that in her favour, who knows with her, she could also be the doormat yet again :o

Two things I'm looking out for at this year's YEC. Lena and Martina will be in different groups. And both will be contending for the title at the finals

she shouldnt have won that match against rubin
down 4-6 2-5
but rubin choked cuz that win would've put her in the second biggest semi since australian open 2006

Lena never won a live rubber in YEC group.. That has to change..

Yeah and the dead rubber that she won was a massive choke from Chanda.

It's weird considering that this event was Elena's 2nd breakthrough in 2000 after reaching the semis at the US Open. She beat Lindsay and got to the semis.
Since then she has been horribly each year.
That one first round match against Justine in front of 100 specators was the worst of them all, she couldn't get a single ball in.

I think it won't be that much better this year either.

She worked too hard all year. too bad she could not close the year out with a bang!! and her only win in the past 3 years was against Rubin. I wish she could have win a match this year.

Depends on whether she wakes up on the right leg or not.

in my opinion, all the 8 players who qualified for the championship are the best 8 players of this year. all players have done their fair share of damages.

so can elena win a match?
in my opinion, yes she definitely can. i think if everybody plays well, all matches would be close. every player has a fair chance of winning a match or two. Maria, Amelie, and Henin are in my opinion favourites for the semis, but i think other payers can also make damages.

lena just needs the luck of the draw. plain & simple. as for her winning a live rubber well that she can do it if she truly believes in herself.

This year Lena took some time off before the YEC,
so she should be more rested

Not sure.. Those heavy workouts in Buffalo may take their toll..

That's one of the easiest ways to improve Lena's results of year.. These two huge tournaments, #4 and #5 in prestige and tons of points.. YEC and AO, she never cares to play them seriously.. It is like another 20% more for her ranking total waiting to be taken.. Leave alone the fact, that surface-wise, these two ought to be her best.. It amazes me, that now she regularly does better at Wimbledon than she does at AO and YEC..

Hopefully, taking some time off will bring some good results. Before this year`s AO she rested a lot and then lost to Schruff.............
...but won Tokyo

So it`s not possible to predict how she will perform there....
I`d love to see her winning some matches..(at least two)
Good luck,Lena!

Lena is #6 right now, that's pretty good.
If she got herself ready for a big January, she might not last the full year.

Every player has to take a break at some point, and Lena doesn't get herself full throttle for down under.

I don't see that as a problem.
As for the YEC, this is a weak one.
Besides Sharapova, no one is coming in at their best

So Lena might surprise

Of course she can. She's beaten Hingis, Sharapova, Clijsters, Henin this year so she's more than capable. If she's approaching this tournament then same way she approaches the AO and not like the Fed Cup, then probably not. Last year, she was gassed by the time she got to the Finals and had a deep US Open semis run and emotional Fed Cup victory and big win over Clijsters and playing every tournament and then Clijsters and the two finalists, Mauresmo and Pierce were in her group who were playing the best. Don't think any threesome will be that imposing this year. So she SHOULD definitely do better. Whether or not she does is an entirely different story.
