i think maria will win the YEC title. she's the one on form at the moment & doesn't look like stopping by the looks of things.

i really hope that kim wins though as what my heart is saying :yeah:

I'm happy if either Maria or Kim wins the YEC.

I'm neutral if Justine or Ameile wins.

I simply don't care if Hingis, Elena D, Petrova, or Kuznetsova wins.

If she would only start to serve better, she would be unbeatable, not just at YEC, IMO. Great athlete, great game, powerfull shots, she just needs that stupid serve!

true, if she just improved that serve then maybe she would have an easier time winning a slam & several tier I's. she needs 2 have a proper serving coach full-time (preferably not her mother) in order 2 overcome this weakness. if she improves her serve by the YEC, i'll be shocked & surprised.

I hope&vote Amélie
I think Maria is the clear favorite though
I wouldn't be surprised if Kuzy won as she'll be overmotivated in Spain, her second home.
Nadia Petrova could also be a surprise winner, she's world #5 after all and she seems to be so much in-form and could benefit from others' tiredness or bad health these days eg : JHH, Clijsters, Dementieva, Amélie...

Justine Henin-Hardenne.

Henin-Hardenne - Been out for a while, no one knows how fit she'll be. She won't have time to play her way into the tournament either if she's not 100% from the word go.

Sharapova - Red-hot form and wants the world No1 spot seemingly more than anyone else. Can't see anyone stopping her.

Mauresmo - Can never rule out a defending champion, but has struggled with injury of late. She'll do well to reach the semis.

Kuznetsova - No idea, could do anything really. Can beat anyone here on her day but can also lose to them all.

Petrova - Looks to be back to her best at the right time, should do some serious damage.

Dementieva - Will want to improve on losing every match 6-2 6-3 like last year. Hasn't played that great lately though but a couple of weeks off should have done her some good.

Hingis - Amazing she's actually here. Needs a decent draw but capable of reaching the semis.

Clijsters - Again, not sure what sort of shape she's in. Taking on the best in the world so soon after a long break may be a bit too much.

i would presume the surface would be slow - that's my assumption though & i don't no if it's accurate. some indoor hardcourts r beoming slow now a these days but not 2 the extreme of clay though.

I posted this in the thread about being excited over the YEC. I'll just quote it here:

This site (http://www.tennisinsight.com/tournam...drid%20TMS.htm) has this to say about court speed here:

Rated: 8.9
Percentile vs. all courts: 15.74%
Percentile vs. Indoor courts: 46.91%

Apparently, the lower the number, the faster the surface.

I have NO idea how reliable this site is. I just found the info while searching on Google, since this is the same place they play the ATP Masters event.

well if you look at them stats and compare them to the us open then the yec will be a quicker surface than the us open which can oly mean good things for maria ! :)

As much as I appreciate Maria's willpower and tough attitude, I still think that an in form Justine, Amélie and Kim are more complete players. I think it everything will depend on the shape in which these three enter the YEC.

IMO Maria has the biggest chance of winning the YEC. She is in really good form and she was the best during the indoor season.

Ben.
Nov 1st, 2006, 11:24 AM
u no, as much as maria is the favourite & i agree she is the favourite, anything can happen at the YEC u no. it's a completely different tournament all together & it's where the top players like kim, justine & amelie despite being fatigued or coming off long injury periods lift their game & play no matter what. the YEC after all is the 2nd biggest tourney after the slams.

Ben.

sorry pal,i wasn't angry to calm down now! but one more thing:that if u look at kuzy, elena, nadia and jhh's results at yec u'll find that they've been always so weak there.but kim has won it twice, momo and masha once each.so i don't think they'd be able to turnaround this ,at least this year they won't.:o

there is no denying that maria is the favourite, n i also think that, but we cannot discount other players.
there might be a few suprises along, though almost all of them except for masha are either injured or suffering from fatigue.

Marias the favourite but who knows how justine and Kim will end up playing - they could be really up for it and the rankings :)

O and Amelie is also defending champion so If shes fit she ll be very motivated ........... also as others have said its the YEC ........ anything can happen

It has been going perfect for Maria so far that I'm having doubts about the YEC. :scared:

She is certainly the favorite going in and if her form continues, I think she'll win it but it's not that simple. More important I feel is how Maria will handle the pressure of being the favorite, against the backdrop of her having a winning streak dating back to August and being within reach of the YE number 1. Maria supposedly is the most in-form player at the moment. Couple this with the fact that her competition-to-be are either coming back from a long break, coming back from injury, are equally as exhausted as her, or are girls who haven't proven themselves on the big stage in a while. So what Maria needs is to be her best mentally for the whole of next week. If Maria has it all together up there, it is more than likely in my opinion that no one can stop her.

Hoping she isn't too exhausted then and her having relatively played a lot won't catch up to her next week.

In addition, if Maria goes far, I just hope her semifinal match will be against Justine.

there might be a few suprises along, though almost all of them except for masha are either injured or suffering from fatigue.

 Maria has played and won tournaments in a row. She'll be as exhausted as those who've played much through the fall indoor season.
